lack of confidence tends to make you look towards the front wheel,

instead try and get your head low and look to the exit, the bike will follow.

Use the whole width of your side of the road, i.e. start wide to give yourself room to lean in.

Plus, break early, and eccelerate through the corner. Mr. Green

At this time of year, you need to concentrate on keeping the bike upright as opposed to cranked on its side. Vice versa for the summer months Wink

Take a look at the "Bend it like Beckham" section, under "Rev it up and go"

Hey, priller - i suggest you do a Bikesafe course - that will teach you what a reasonable, quick and most importantly SAFE line through a corner is. You'll gain loads out of the experience and is well worth doing, seeing that most of your riding is on the road!

If you want to be safe, general rule of thumb is:

1) for left bends, position yourself towards the centre/right of your lane for maximum vision and therefore you can judge when to turn in and gas out.

2) right hand bends - position yourself towards the gutter and do the same like in situation 1.

Might i say, that if a car happens to be in the way, never compromise safety for vision and quickness around a corner.

3) DO YOUR BRAKING BEFORE A CORNER, and select the right gear. I use engine braking to slow me down but for heaven's sake don't do that on your RS as it is bound to sieze. make sure you have 50% of the revs available, or make sure you're in your powerband. other than that, do minimal braking & acceleration when cranked over otherwise u'd sit the bike up or highside.

(from what i know, which aint a lot... Smile )

Aspects of taking a corner -

Approach - getting the speed/gear right for the corner with enough power to see you through but not enough to slide off.

Apex - This is the 'crux' of the corner, the point where on tracks the bikes over the red an white, where the beginning of the corner ends and the end of the corner begins. Wink The point of apex is the middle of the corner where you come as close to the inside as you can safely do, since its the straightest route through a corner (outside - inside - outside again)

Powering Out - Bike back to upright and throttle back up for the straight (or whatever comes next).

Three basic ways of taking a corner.

visibility - Stay as far on the outside of the corner as you can until can see right through it to the road straightening out (or doing whatever a road tends to do). Once you can see through the corner you maximise your turn, leaning over and going as near to the inside edge as it is safe to do so, thus taking the straightest route through the rest of the corner you can, allowing you to stand the bike up as soon as possible.

Fastest - Basically you aim to apex at the centre of the corner, therefore taking the shortest possible route through the corner. Come from the very outside, to the very inside, to the vey outside again, trying to minimise the distance you are actually turning the bike. Imagine with a car, when the steering wheel is straight you can go faster, so you would be trying to keep the steering wheel as straight as possible for the longest time.

can be damned dangerous if you cant see through a corner as it could tighten up or as you stand the bike back up and throttle it.. you only just get a view of whats ahead

Double Apex - Taking a corner as if it was two corners half its size. For example a hairpin (180 degree U shaped corner) you aim to apex and turn 90 degrees, stand the bike up and power it as long as you can, then turn again through the remaining 90 degree's. The idea behind this is keeping the bike upright for the maximum amount of time, especially on sweeping corners when two quick sharp turns with a stretch of acceleration in the middle can be faster, especially on larger engine bikes.

Tried to explain what i mean in the diagrams *point down*

I think it has something to do with drag. When you see them on a straight they lean forward, get less drag thus, increase in speed. Vice versa when they slow down Thumbs Up .
