Bike stolen!

Had my motorbike stolen last night from my private car park where I live, the police say they have found it but it has "attempted to be burnt" so I don't know what condition it will be in. Still waiting for police to contact me.

Went to get on it to ride to work this morning and it wasnt there, I cant believe it, it had a disc brake lock on it aswell.

A lot of motorbikes have been stolen around my area lately, something needs to be done, so angry!

Failed my mod1 yesterday too on the figure of 8, things arent going well at the moment..

Eff no, don't claim on that bike. Subtract your excess and in a few months time you'll get a few £££hundred back at most in return for a raping on every vehicle policy you take out in the next 5 years.

I wouldn't even tell the insurer, just cancel the policy as you "no longer have the bike".

Tell Dibble and the pound to whistle for their money, invite them to actually read the law that they'll threaten you with. Their claim is against the person who left the vehicle in the place from where it was recovered, not against you.

That's the clear, explicit wording of the legislation, and you'll be delighted to point this out to a Magistrate and wreck their scam if they're ignorant enough to press the point.

Tell the DVLA (recorded delivery) that the bike has been disposed of and that you are no longer the keeper and have no access to it, cite any reference numbers that you have, get ready for them to pursue you for years anyway.

Sorry that this happened to you, but please don't let yourself be victimised any further. The bike is gone, move on.

I had a disc lock, i had a oxford chain, it was in my 'secure' garage unchained... I've lost sympathy for people who say this.

I don't know where the police got it had been burnt from, they called me back and it's had the steering lock and ignition broken and number plate taken off.

Should be able to collect it on Monday, so see the condition.

Also I live in Shirley, they tried to steal my friends fazer600 not that long ago but couldn't break the steering lock. I know a few people that have had theirs stolen and not got them back.

Also bought a Kryptonite chain and lock and grip lock handle bar lock this morning..

Goodish news then. Get down there and recover the bike ASAP. They'll likely want to see a certificate of insurance, and in practice you're going to have to pay £170+ to get it back. Sorry.

Write "paid under duress" on any invoice, then if you feel so minded you can invoice them back and small claim it, although I wouldn't fancy your chances because the scam is so well entrenched by now.

The relevant legislation is Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 Section 102:

"person responsible", in relation to a vehicle, means—
(a) the owner of the vehicle at the time when it was put in the place from which it was removed as mentioned in subsection (1) above, unless he shows that he was not concerned in, and did not know of, its being put there;
(b) any person by whom the vehicle was put in that place;
