And yes, it's been fixed by me, not the insurance cause they would just write it off again....

I'm actually a little surprised they went to the effort to steal that bike. Neutral

So am I. I mean, why would you attempt to steal an 155mph* bike?

[/sarcasm]

*originally designed to do 145 mph, but gearing at 155mph gives a nice 90mph at 6 grand. Just off the 4.5grand vibration zone and just right to bang it down a couple of cogs and hit the 7.5 grand mentalist zone...

Hi

I do like FZs. Should sort mine out to go back on the road.

But really consider a different pipe. The Microns had an awful reputation for flat spots. One on mine was awful (got a Laser system on now which is far better).

Take it the idiots blew the main fuse trying to hotwire it.

All the best

Keith

It's almost impossible to get new pipes for them now, and mine isn't too bad. You just have to learn how to get round the flat spot. One of the worse things to do is do away with the airbox. Keep it and they are mostly okay.

Mr Kickstart need not apply unless he's currently at Her Majesties Pleasure.

Had a call from Bath nick a couple of weeks ago, it's being TIC'd along with a load of burgularys.

Stock reply to threads about bike theft = lets hope they are in a terrible road accident and are maimed for life.

Mine still has the airbox, but with the micron there was a massive flat spot between 3k and 4k which was a pain when trying to nip onto roundabouts and the like. Let clutch out, it bogs down, natural reaction is more throttle to compensate and it bogs down even more, then hits 4k and takes off.

I have a set of original downpipes (4>2 on my early 1FN), and also a tatty system. Trouble with the complete system is that it is off a Japanese market bike and I am not sure whether the exhaust was different to go with their 77hp restriction.

Idiot thieves did exactly the same to mine years ago (err, about 20 years ago now). And the pattern replacement ignition switch was rubbish!

All the best

Went for a spin this morning and specifically looked for a flat spot between 3-4 k because I don't remember having one on mine.

Couldn't find it.

FZs do suffer in the mid-range if the size of the pipe at the headers are too large.

I'm wondring if Micron modified their design (before they went bust).

Looks a lot like what the little scrotes who tried to nick my 125 did. I think the fact it won't start (at all) with the side-stand down was all that stopped them nicking it. Laughing

I love bikes of that age. Would love an FZ750 or maybe a GPZ750 as a project at some point.

The Micron system on my ZZR600 caused a pile of flat spots, the most severe of which was at about 3-4k if I remember correctly. I was in the process of putting a set of stainless 4-2 pipes on it when I got fed up and sold it in favour of the TRX850. I am told, as you've already said, that the header pipe was bigger bore than standard and that somehow upset the fuelling.

If you are interested in an FZ, have a visit here. There's world of experience with FZs here, including 3 (maybe 4) people who had their bikes featured in Practical Sportsbike last year.

Looks quite tidy in the last picture, was that before the crime or after the repairs?

That was before (and before the write-off by a local recovery truck) but it looks much the same these days.

Possible. Mine was from the late 1980s and they were renowned for it.

Don't know the name of the driver, the recovery company is named after a local village who do a lot of recovery for the police etc.(cause I don't want to announce their name nationally, but locals will know who I mean).

He wasn't recovering me, he reversed away from the traffic calming just round the corner from Culverhey School to give way for a bus whilst ignoring the manic horn-sounding from me behind him.

Luckily I had witnesses....
