I binned my sodding bike coming home from work this evening, was slowing down for a roundabout and the back end slid out, taking me and bike to the ground.

Didn't injure myself one bit thanks to the gear I was wearing, but the bike is a tad damaged. The top fairing is basically totalled, cos the indicator was fixed to it and that was ripped off, the clutch lever has snapped and the sidestand and gear lever are both bent.
Looks like its mainly cosmetic at the moment, no damage to the frame as far as I can see and the bike is still rideable as I rode it home after coming off of it.

But I have made a decision tonight that I am going to give up riding for this winter and see what the spring brings.

You claiming off insurance or fixing it yourself?

Not nice is it. First 'off'?

Nooooooooooooooo!!!

Sorry to hear about that, but I'm glad you're ok Craig! Although it doesn't help when your bike is wrecked...you're ok and that's the main thing!!

How are you going to get to work through winter then if you intend to give it up?

Nah this is my 3rd in 4 years, and the damage really ain't that bad. I don't think.

And as for this winter, I am going to use my dads 4 wheels to get to work and use public transport when ever need be. I really can't afford the expense of repairing the bike and then binning it again.

But to be honest I am loosing all cofidence in this bike as I have only had it 3 months and had so many things go wrong with it.
May go back to a Suzuki next year when I have some money.

And I've just noticed my left knee is now swelling all thanks to my motrax knee slider. Confused

Dagnabit! Hopefully the bike won't be too expensive to repair, though fairings are nastily costly. I can hardly blame you for knocking off riding for the winter with the roads like they are just now, we need a good couple of days of downpour to get them clean again. It seemed like the curse had decided to take a little break after its recent splurge, but no such luck.

One weird thing I did notice when I was sliding on my arse behind the bike is how lovely the sparks looked that were coming from it, and the feeling of not knowing for a few seconds of what the hell was happening Confused.

Thankfully a lady and guy stopped in a golf and helped me up and got the bike upright too.

Considering I have just come off I don't feel all that bothered to be honest, as these things are sent to try us. I was contemplating giving up for winter anyway and this has gone and decided for me.

Have enough low speed crashes and it becomes second nature. Rolling Eyes My lot were a glut in September during which I lowsided twice (after having broken my arm 2 months beforehand) and got flipped into the verge when my footpeg dug into it. (200 yards after the previous lowside Embarassed , a stuck brake pedal contributed to it).

I can only relate it to what it felt like when I crashed my car....the sounds, the feeling, seeing pieces of metal crush and just accepting that it's happening and there's nowt you can do to salvage the situation!

Oh, and did it happen in slow motion too Craig?!

Yeah, really kinda weirdly, one min I was on the bike, the next I was on the floor sliding on my arse looking at the bike infront of me, first word I said when I stood up was "bollocks"!

Just taken some photos of the damage too the bike.

Doesn't look at all bad really but I have noticed the left hand exhaust is closer to the bike and by the look of it, it has bent at the exhaust/pillion footpeg mount.

Unlucky. Sad

Damage is light though which is good, cheap indicator, clutch lever and bend that gear lever back and it'll be perfectly usable. Very Happy

Just be glad that wasn't a Motad Nexxus 2 into 1. Wink Apart from the borked indicator/ fairing, it doesn't look too bad, though I always have to wonder how people can manage to ride home with gear levers that screwed up. Slowly I suppose.

With difficulty, was a bit to try and change gear with it and I kept getting the wrong gear.

Looking at the damage I think I'll probably be riding it again tomorow to be honest, was abit hasty before about thinking of giving up.

Sorry to hear that Craig, but glad you're OK & the bike is not TOO badly damaged.

Minutes (or even hours) after an "off" is not the best time to contemplate your future riding though! Tomorrow (today?) you'll be stiff as a board & aching all over, don't worry this is normal.

Will you still be doing the Stoke toy run on Sunday then? Be a shame if you miss that.

Take care.

I'm confused as to how the back end slid out if you were slowing for a roundabout at 15-20mph? Were you hacking up to the roundabout and had to slam the brakes on and locked up the back wheel?

Nah, basically leaning in a tad to enter the roundabout when the backend broke away from beneath me, at that point the bike just went completely and sent me sliding down the road.

A mixture of cold tyres, slippery roads and a tired me were mainly the causes.

Ahhh bugger.

I am pleased to hear that you're ok, and the damage to the bike doesn't look anywhere near as bad as I was expecting.

Seems to be just one of those things that happen. Oh, I agree with John - you will be riding before Spring!

Don't think I will, my confidence is a tad dented and the bike really isn't rideable for a long distance, I shall be missing it. Sad

Also got really depressed just now too, watching quite a few hundred bike on the Manchester toy run.
