Hi all,

I recently passed MOD 1 and 2 earlier in the month, and have since gone on to purchase a used beautiful 2009 Triumph Thruxton.

I've been on the road a few times with other friends who are bikers, and more recently started to ride just on my own. Earlier this weekend I passed another rider who was parked up with loads of smoke coming from his bikes engine, and it got me a little worried. Although I've learnt to ride a bike but i also want to know i can maintain one correctly too.

Are there any suitable courses around that offer bike maintenance as such? e.g. Bring your bike in and mechanics walk you through everything from oil changes to simple modifications. Types of tools? Remapping?

Theres a lot of bike jargon that i dont understand, and if there where any future modifications that i would like to make, it would be nice to know i have the right tools and the knowledge to do so or not.

Im based in london. Your advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Check out Oval Motorcycle Centre. They run a DIY workshop and also basic maintenance courses.

I'm also in London (North East) and can talk you through an oil change too Thumbs Up

No problem. I've seen them displaying a stand at the Excel centre MCN motorbike show and they seemed friendly, along with live demo's of how to adjust chain, change pads etc.

Which part of London are you in?

Im North London just inside the A406. OMC seem to do evening courses on bikes which is ideal. Unfortunately havent been able to get through to them on the phone. But will keep trying to book a course there as soon as i can.

Ah me too, I'm in Woodford. Used to use the A406 for the past 5 years nearly every day to Harrow and back.

Good - I'm sure you'll get hold of them!

Not a course, but i went from being terified of doing anything and clueless to doing about 80 percent of the service tasks in a month using a haynes manual, 100 or so quids worth of tools and youtube/bcf/other forums for occasional advice, a lot of it isn't as hard as you think Thumbs Up
