Multiple Cameras.

Sorry if this has been asked before (I'm sure I've read it somewhere but I couldn't find anything on search) but myself and the other half were having a "heated debate" on the way home from Manchester tonight.

If you're on a straight road (or possibly going through motorway roadworks) where there are several cameras in place, what happens if you trip more than one of them?

He thinks that each camera is a seperate offence and carries it's own fine & points, so in theory it would be possible to lose your licence just for going too fast down a single road if there were 4 or more cameras.

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can't be done more than once for speeding on the same road if it is within a specified time from the first camera, as the first camera catches you speeding, and you are then just "continuing to speed" rather than "speeding again".

Who is right?

I have no idea really but my guess is you could get done for each one you set off.

My guess, though not intelligent one is that ever camera is a separate offence. Though judging by the amount of cameras that are on the roadworks on the M42 near the NEC, that would indeed be a very harsh punishment. Thumbs Down

A bloke at work managed to get over 12 points in one weekend... all from one or two cameras.

As he needed his licence for his job he got away without a ban.

I believe you can get done by multiple cameras on one road.

Seperate offences, so yes mutliple tickets and points.

People have been let off one of the tickets in the past before now, possibly because the scamera partnership felt they were on slightly dodgy ground and did not want to have a legal precedent which could shoot them down in the future.

One woman was caught by loads, but only got one ticket as it was all on the same journey. Others have been done individually. they make it up as they go along.

I believe if you can prove that your speed did not drop below the legal limit in between the two cameras (i.e. you were continuously speeding) then they are obliged to treat it as one offence. However proving this might be difficult...

I think the whole point is that a ticket and points are intended to make you think and slow down in the future. So if you get caught by loads on one journey you haven't had the opportunity to learn from your mistake and therefore you have an easy argument in court.

i heard about this before...
it is one offence IF you can prove that you didn't go below the legal road limit, or u just moan so much, i think.

just to settle a discussion me n Claud 14.7 to 1 had today when working on his bike.

when u pass your test, you can only get 6 points for the first 6 months... and a 33BHP restriction for 2 years... is this correct

or is it
6 point limit + 33BHP for 2 years?

So if theres multiple cameras, not only do you have to try and prove that you werent speeding any more you have to now prove you WERE speeding aswell. The mind boggles 'yes officer of course I did 45 all the way through that 30 zone, I didnt let that first camera slow me down a single bit....'
