Plain and comfortable enough to wear around the office all day, very happy with these. Might not be high enough in the leg for some people's liking though. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

I'm still waiting for my Goretex lined army surplus boots to leak. Again, maybe not high enough and lack ankle support, but they've been totally waterproof.
I'm talking sloshing though highland peat bogs in lashing rain, and they didn't let in a drop in a torrential ride at the weekend where the rest of my gear just gave up and I was soaked from neck to shins. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I bought a pair of Alpinestars Web goretex boots this time last year as I wanted cheap waterproof commuter boots, but didn't fancy army boots.
I am very happy with them, haven't let a drop through, warm, comfortable, well made etc etc etc. They replaced a pair of Weise highways which were by far the shittest things I have ever put on my feet.
The other boots I was considering were the TCX explorer but I didn't like the fit or lack of leather and also the TCX infinity, but I didn't like the flimsy feeling buckles.
I got my Webs from here, they had adult human sizes in stock when I phoned them:

Few cheaper spada ones also depending on the style/size boot you want, used a pair of them for 2 winter and they're still useable today |
They are a rebranding of my despised Weise Highways

A review I wrote for somewhere else. Since writing that, the left sole fell off and I binned them. Utter, utter shite.:
| Quote: | I commute by motorcycle an average of 25 miles a day, I have owned these boots for about a year and a half, I have worn them roughly half of the time that I have commuted (i.e the equivalent of about 9 months of daily use). I walk from the car park, down a short corridor and up a set of stairs, I don't do long walks in them.
At first I thought they were pretty good, the calf was a bit tight but they were comfortable. The first time I was caught in heavy rain on a longer ride (it was a 70 mile ride to a friends) I arrived with soaking heels. The boots let water in at the back where the plastic heel plate meets the flexible leather, the stitches holding the two parts together get torn by the silly design when you walk in them. Eventually, the insides of the boot at this point also get torn to shreds so the only thing between your foot and the elements is a bit of stitched leather, needless to say they leak like a seive. Eventually the stitching around the gear shift lever plastic part also broke and the toes leaked too. You will get wet feet with these boots. The zip also gets caught on the waterproof filler bit between the two zips, it is seriously annoying.
The plastic heel part also digs into the back of your ankle when you walk, after the insides have torn apart (and they will) this becomes very painful. Mine are soon to be occupying a landfill and I believe that it is the best place for them.
Good points:
They look ok
Detatchable abrasion plates on the outer ankle
comfortable at first
Bad:
Not waterproof, in any sense of the word - down to design rather than liners.
Inner heel tears to shreds - exposing your foot to the hard plastic
Tight calves
Etc
Would not recommend, to anyone, under any circumstances. |

For the money you're spending, don't buy anything that's not goretex.
I've wasted money on "waterproof" boots in the past. Only goretex boots were actually waterproof. ____________________ Bikes: S1000R, SH350; Exes: Vity 125, PS125, YBR125, ER6f, VFR800, Brutale 920, CB600F, SH300x4

My boots leaked last Saturday for the first time, after 3 hours on the motorway in heavy rain. Being too tight to splash out on a new pair at the moment I was wondering if anyone has used sealskinz supposedly waterproof socks?

Yes, they work fine.
It's a weird feeling having soggy socks, but taking them off to find dry feet, mind. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Daytona Roadstar GTX - You can pick up some good ones on fleabay if your prepared to wait for them to come along.
You can get them re-soled & full repairs so basically they are a lifetime boot.
The downside is that they might not be as sexy as some, but it depends on what you want. I've worn mine to festivals & they haven't leaked a drop!
As a previous poster said Altberg, They look heavy but they're as light as fook! They're british & made to order. If you can get up to the factory, they'll make them to the shape of your foot.
It doesn't get any better than that.! |
