what to look out for on a street triple

Im going to have a look at a couple of street triples over the weekend, and was just wondering if there's anything to look out for on used models, does anyone who has owned/ does own one have any tips? Thanks

Out of interest, why buy the R over standard?

Isn't it just extra suspension adjustment? New, the R is quite a bit more, so isn't there a similar difference in used prices too, is it worth it?

cheers guys, theres one I'm looking at, 2012 street triple r in red, with arrow slip ons, belly pan, rad covers, fly screen and seat cowl for just over £6k, reckon thats a good deal? has about 2k miles on it too.

I've had an R and ridden a standard.

Insurance doesn't like R bikes!

Get a standard, you won't know the difference.

A friend has a street triple, check the wiring by the headstock, his had worn through.

If its a 12 plate make sure its had the rear indicator stalks recall done, they snap for fun.
I had an R, not much to look for, used a bit of oil, the new style headlamps had a problem with cracking and the injectors kept going out of balance. Apart from that it was ok.
Got rid cos even though it was the R the suspension was budget and couldn't be set up for my liking and I got bored with it.

Seems a fair price but I'd be looking to get it a little lower if your negotiating with good old moolah in the hand

Had my 2012 Phantom Black for just over a year and I love it.
Done over 6000 miles in the last year. What I would say is keep on top of the cleaning. Some of the aluminium parts start getting furry quite quickly if you don't wash it off after a wet ride.

If you can get it for just under 6k then i think you have an amazing deal. The accessories alone are around 1k brand new and with only 2k miles on it thats very tidy.

I start to feel like i got screwed over with mine, 5k with no accessories and 9000 miles on an 09, tis an R tho.

Brand new triples standard version 2013, are only £5920 new at a certain dodgy dealership in Maidstone, that was a month ago but looking on the web they have lots if pre reg ones as well

May be worth a shot if your spending 6k, may as well get new with the full 3 year warranty.

No its not a joke, I was seriously tempted in July to buy a street and was offered a pre reg in any colour you like as for £6k I also phoned metropolis and was offered a new one with myself as the first owner for £6200

Really cheap and fantastic offer (no I don't work for either companies) but I didn't like the clutch in the street and bought a z800 instead.

I posted the offer on visor down and mcn in the forums a few weeks ago.

Just trying to get the guy a good offer.

Please remember that was the deal I was offered back in July, no finance, no trade in just a plain bike with no options. (I would have gone for the blue one)

I bought a standard one. It wasn't enough, I ended up doing a lot of work to it, ended up like this:

Daytona rear shock, Ktech internaled daytona front end were major upgrades. It also had a large amount of carbon fibre, remus decat downpipes, open carbon cans, reflashed ecu, KnN etc.

Bottomless pit it was.

Also beware of bikes that have been fiddled with by oiks. There have been two recent Streets in at the local triumph dealer that have been grenaded by people loading incorrect tunes into the ecu.
