Hi all,

I was planning on changing the air filter and plugs today on the ZZR and ordered the bits from ebay. But having a quick flick though the Haynes before getting started, it seems I have been sent the wrong spark plugs.

According to the manual, I need to use NGK CR9E plugs but I have been sent NGK C9E (without the 'R'). The only mention of C9E plugs in the manual is for US spec ZZR600D (mine's an E model).

I was wondering what would happen if I hadn't noticed they'd sent the wrongs plugs? Could I just have used them anyway? I'm rather annoyed by this as I'm covering someone's holiday at work and won't get another chance to do this time consuming job for quite a while, not to mention them possibly fucking up my bike.

Speak with seller. Return if appropriate. If not buy correct plugs.

Pretty much what you would have done before the internet was invented.

The R in the plugs number denotes the presence of a resistor in the plug, now as far as I know the only detriment would be possible emf interference caused by the sparks, the below I lifted from NGK's website,

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When should I use a resistor spark plug?

A: NGK "R" or resistor spark plugs use a 5k ohm ceramic resistor in the spark plug to suppress ignition noise generated during sparking.

NGK strongly recommends using resistor spark plugs in any vehicle that uses on-board computer systems to monitor or control engine performance. This is because resistor spark plugs reduce electromagnetic interference with on-board electronics.

They are also recommended on any vehicle that has other on-board electronic systems such as engine-management computers, two-way radios, GPS systems, depth finders or whenever recommended by the manufacturer.

In fact, using a non-resistor plug in certain applications can actually cause the engine to suffer undesirable side effects such as an erratic idle, high-rpm misfire, engine run-on, power drop off at certain rpm levels and abnormal combustion.

return to sender as they don't match the spec in your handbook and so are not fit for purpose.

were they advertised as ''for ZZR600E" or were they advertised as the plug's part number and you didn't realise you needed the R version?

If the former, definitely not fit for purpose, if the latter then it'll be a gentlemen's agreement for the seller to take them back.

If you need to get the job done this weekend you might have to take the hit and go to halfrauds.

I'd use them, its only a non resistor one. You have no onboard computer, you more than likely won't tell the difference.

The only thing a resistor would reduce is the spark. If you rode past someones house and affected their TV for a few moments, would you give a t0ss?

The likelihood of that happening is very very small anyway.

So long as they aren't too long or something they should be fine.
The other numbers relating to operating temperatures are similar.
The correct thing would be run concerns by seller who will likely reply with comments as above.
The ones they've sent appear correct for US models.
It will be because UK specify the resistor, no other difference.

Use them. You won't notice the difference.

They were advertised as 4 x CR9E plugs, I paid £17.85 for them. Their fuck up, not mine! Laughing

I'll just contact the seller for a refund or they can have some negative feedback.

Thanks all for the replies Karma
