So...unfortunately budget won't stretch for street triple I wanted so looks like i'll probably go for an fz6, are there any common faults or issues to look out for? I'm looking for a low mileage one anyway, had my fill of high mileage bikes.

Currently looking at an 06 with 2k on the clock and an 08 with 5k on the clock

Is an 08 FZ6 that much less than a ST?

Could you not save for a couple of months and buy in winter?

Not specific to the Fazer, but as with any bike with such low miles at that age, check its' service history and work out how much it has been ridden each year. Being sat for years without use isn't that healthy.

I can't think of anything from my 9 months of FZ6 ownership that I would point out, solid bikes, and at such low mileage, few to no issues. Although I would definitely for for the later one as it had a few things sorted out on it from 2007 onwards.

ideally I want to change for when my hornet insurance runs out at the end of sept, I like paying my insurance all in one upfront also which has restricted my budget a bit, unfortunately stripples are generally a grand over what I have available :/

On a side note, reckon I'd be ok to ride the bike home? My hornet insurance covers me also for riding other peoples bikes 'with their permission' as long as i'm not the owner, although I will be the owner I imagine I won't show up as such until the v5 has been updated?

It would have to have it insured before you could ride it.

Would you get away with placing the full amount down as a deposit and 'test riding' it until you're happy enough to buy?

Earlier FZ6s could develop a problem with the throttle positioning sensor, which caused symptoms on my bike of locking up the back wheel on downchanges to lower gears and stalling when you come to a stop. It's not a hugely expensive fix I don't think (it might even be free because I think Yamaha recalled them).

Aside from that, it's a very reliable bike. I had mine for three years with no other issues after that.

I'd turn up with my Hornet plate and get it home that way.

But, nothing to add in terms of issues...

Not actually a bad idea...would still be slightly worried about getting back without getting pulled but I imagine it would be fairly minimal chance? would only be roughly 35 miles

I rode for a month with a DT125 plate on my bike because mine fell off and I didn't have the V5, nor ebay. Laughing

Nothing happened.
