I took the bike out yesterday mainly cos I had no transport and I needed to get around and cos I wanted to ride the bike.

Took it out down the A1 for five minutes and visor is covered then after half an hour had to stop to wipe the visor, on the way home after my few duties of the day could'nt see cos of the front light getting covered and no light getting through so had to stop again. Then getting home the bike was black instead of red, got the hose out and washed it down with cold water (not hot or it reacts with the salt) and so much crap came off it. Anyway it's now sitting in the garage nice and clean. Bloody salt does'nteven make that much diference if it's icy anyway the roads are still slippy!!

Moan over........lol... bring on the spring.

So ya saying your visor was covered in crap within 5 minutes, but you kept riding for another 25 minutes before stopping to clean it?

& then ya say that ya used cold water instead of hot because hot *reacts* with the salt? Checked the temperature of the oceans lately? Rolling Eyes

I used the suede bit on my gloves to clean the visor up untill I stopped when my glove became usless.

And the cold/hot water thing, it's adviced that when you clean the bike down after riding it all over a salty road use cold soapy water as the hot water will accelerate the whole salt-rust thing.
Not saying that salt reacts with the water.

So who would win in a fight between Blair and Blunkett then?

I reckon Blair would take one look at Blunketts dog and run away crying like a little girl to uncle George. Meantime, Blunkett would be shagging his bird (because frankly, noone else would).

Prescot would then stick the head on him and steal his pocket money.

Personally, I would have though that hot water would remove more salt than cold.

Someone wrote into BiKE mag a while back asking the same question. Apparently hot water is not a good idea for removing salt, although I don't remember why exactly. I'd imagine those guys know what they're talking about though.

You guys must be truly having some crap weather down there.

I've been using the bike everyday since November the 17th, and its only rained once, and that was when F.A dropped her bike because of ice. Lovely day just now, dry roads and what not. Not seen ice in quite some time.

Yeah thats where I read the whole hot and cold water thing in one of the Bike mags.
It will be something to do with the hot water for example maybe the hot water disolves the salt spreading it quicker or maybe the metal just simply rusts quicker with hot salt rather than cold salty water! don't know.

It's not been icy once yet but it does'nt stop the council throwing down salt on every road each day.

I could stay well back but it's kinda hard when you want to make some progress on a dual carriageway!

Anyway the whole point of the post was'nt to say I don't rde in the winter cos of this I was just stating that I wish it was spring with better weather and that there is so much salt on the roads (I am in the north east so maybe's it's just up here).
