Insurance, NCB, probably a stupid question

so yeah as the subject says, possibly retarded question but basically I have 1 bike insured until end of sep which will get me my 2nd year ncb,

however i'm buying a new bike very soon, meaning i'll have the 2 overlapping,

is it possible to take out a new policy on the new bike with no no claim, then when the other expires have the no claims from that one applied to the new bike?


Edit, just realised that was kind of stupid as it wouldn't accumulate a whole year on the new bike anyway :/ gash.

If i had 2 policies with no claims on then can they be combined next time round or do they always remain seperate?

Right now I have now renewed with same company and they let me have the year's NCB even though it was a week short.. not exactly same as you - but it could have been overlapping if I'd have gone with another company.

Reading your question again however, I don't really know what you should do. I would let the policy end at the end of September, and try and get a new bike as close to the end date as possible so the overlap is minimal.

i might just have to lock up the new one til close to end of that policy, or just have them both insured, the 2 years ncb only knocks off about £45 for the year

Doesn't the insurance company send out renewal docs a couple of weeks before the policy is due anyway? These can be used for proof of NCB with any new insurer, plus the time it takes to send you new policy docs with instructions of where to send NCB within 14 days or so. There is probably a bit of a window for you to play with there.

If you're buying from a dealer could try asking if you can put an additional deposit down for them to hold it until the appropriate time for you to buy/insure with the NCB

Personally i wouldlay it up, when I bought my GSXR it was October policy ran out in January bike was stored in my garage under a cover with chain & disk lock behind my car at night and not thought about again till Jan.
