New to the forum and new bike.

Hi all, im new to the forum, been a long time lurker but not posted so I thought now I should.

Anyhow I completed my CBT in October last year and bought this...

A 1994 Yamaha TDR 125 Belgarda which cost me £700 with a years tax and test. I went for this as im quite tall and heavy so thought it would be ideal.

Unfortunately on my first ride of it I got ten minutes away from my house and it conked out. The piston destroyed itself. I did mean to get it all done up (the seller said it needed a new battery but it turned out all electrics were shot), but I work shifts and never got around to it.

Anyhow I stuck it up for sale and agreed on a trade for this....

A 1995 Suzuki RG Fun with 6 months test and tax. And unlike my last bike it works.

Just got to get insurance sorted and hopefully i'll complete that first ride i've been itching for.

Welcome to the forum.

Also the Suzuki, hope it all goes well compared to the Yamaha. But Suzuki's electrics are supposed to be quite appalling on the Gixxer 400's etc. So I'd assume the same for that one.

Hopefully you can take it for a few good rags and it won't die.

Honda CG 125 would have been more ideal if you're after a reliable bike.

You don't see many Italian import TDR's compared to the uk/Japanese version. As with the RG125FUN which is probably the rarest Japanese 125 sports bike now too.

If I'm honest with any £700 2stroke I would have brought them with the intention and expectation of a pre-ride full engine re-build, unless a pile of invoices and receipts suggested otherwise.

I do hope the Trade and Ride approach works out for you and you have loads of fun on your Suzuki, but remember that a blow up will always cost more than a preventative strip down, inspection and re-build.

Thanks for the advice chaps, it all helps.

I would have stuck with the TDR, but the electrical problem had me beat, I tried lots of garages where I live but none could find a wiring diagram so didn't want to touch it.

But I've had my eyes opened now and playing with my tdr has taught me some things, plus I've got a full workshop manual for this bike which should help.
