Picked my helmet up yesterday on my way to run an errand. Walked out the front door. Stared at the spot where my bike should have been for around 30 seconds before conceding that no, my bike wasn't actually there.

There are no words...

It was my first bike, a suzuki marauder 125. Unfortunately on the lock from my padlock to my bike chain broke earlier in the week (although in hindsight I think maybe somebody had a go at it) and I hadn't managed to replace it yet.

That's what I was going out to get when I realised the bike was nicked. I live in a tiny fishing village in Fife, so thought it would survive a few days until I managed to get a replacement lock. How wrong I was..

So now I need to wait and see what the underwriters say. Sigh.. I loved that bike. On the upside I guess, I was looking at a replacement and buying another 125 would cost me the same as buying a big bike. So I'm thinking of getting booked in for my DAS and get a big bike as a replacement.

I've been working 17 hour days all last week which is why I hadn't managed to get a new padlock yet. Never making that mistake again. Going to ensure I have at least 3 kicking about the house at any given time to ensure this never happens again.

In which case, ask around the local nutters. People don't nick a 125 suzuki intruder to strip it for parts, they nick it to razz about on.

If someone sabotaged the lock then nicked it a few days later, it was probably a local. It could be being ragged up and down the beach this very minute. Of if you have any coal bings nearby?

Worth going out and having a look for it in ditches etc.

Whereabouts in Fife? I'm over in Fife now so curious...

Post up the registration, what colour it was, anything distinctive etc

If it were me, I'd make it known to the local youths that there is a small cash reward for it's return. Worth a shot...

It was nicked from Lower Largo, Registration FE10 PXO, had front and back L plates, a scuff on the front mudguard from where I came off my first month riding. Black 2010 model with about 3000 miles on the clock. Not really any other distinguishing features to be honest. Cheers for keeping an eye out though and good suggestion on the reward - I'll see if the local shop will let me stick a sign in the window.

I know the exact feeling of seeing your bike's not there and wondering if you actually left it there.

Bike found on Methil beach, was just notified this morning by the recovery place. Sounds like it's pretty wrecked though - totally waterlogged, missing seat, mirrors gone, reg plate missing...

Have notified the insurers so they can find out if it's repairable or a total write off, although I suspect with the amount of sea water thats probably gotten in to everything it may be the latter.

Any insurance payout should go on an Almax chain first, and a bike second, now that the local vermin know where they can get their webbed paws on a bike.

Myself and my GF had two new Yamaha Vitys stolen after ~8 months. Comprehensive insurance was included in the purchase deal. Two years after, insurance loading had disappeared. Insured value was ~1300 IIRC.

Now, comprehensive insurance in London E3 is silly money to begin with, but the quotes don't change any more whether or not the theft is on there.

It's worth experimenting with insurance quotes to test it out.

Almax 3 chain off their website 1.5M and an abloy lock off ebay Thumbs Up in future leave your bike unchained, only ever left mine twice unchained both times scrotes tried to steal it Shocked

This is why all my bikes have discrete switches in addition to the ignition.

What's even better is when you put it in series with the sidestand switch. Stand switch kills bike when in gear and you release clutch - makes you think you stalled it. Combine with a loud can and the would be thief revs it more before releasing clutch each time, drawing attention to themselves.


On another note, I have a cat C GZ125 2003 in my garage. Needs a clutch switch, mudguard and a front wheel and it'll be good to go. Original broken clocks showed 6000 miles. £500 for it and you'll be able to repair your bike nicely and sell the remaining parts on eBay to recoup some cash.


OH and get it bought back! I know of a bloke who's ZZR got submerged for a week after superstorm Sandy last year and after a good flush through and clean up it ran nicely again.

Actually, if the clutch is in and stand down the bike will run in gear and only die when the clutch is released. An additional switch in series with the stand switch will cause the same effect, hide this additional switch and you've got an anti-theft device.

Perhaps varies bike to bike and by shear coincidence all the ones I've had have been this way.
