https://www.itv.com/news/west/update/2013-09-03/120mph-biker-disqualified-for-18-months/

Saw this on the news today. Now, he took his chance and got caught, shit happens. What I can't stand is the sensationalism and outcry they report about in the news and the coppers making out speeding is the worst thing you could possibly ever do.

The copper on the news was mentioning how many bikers have been killed this year, blah blah, quite what that has got to do with speeding I don't know. Did all those bikers crash their bikes at 100 mph+ but definitely would have survived at 70 mph?

People have had shorter bans for DRINK FUCKING DRIVING!

I also watched Motorway Cops on BBC 1 last night, similar sort of 'think of all the kittens' nonsense. Guy in a car clocked at 100mph on the motorway, but hearing the cops saying 'if something went wrong with his car at that speed...', so he'd be fine at 70 mph then? Another said 'at 100 mph the car starts shaking and it feels unsafe, you definitely know you're going too fast'. Well maybe you need to get your squad car sorted, because I've been 150 mph in mine and it felt fucking fantastic.

Anyone else hate all this misinformation and sensationalism relating to going a bit fast? I'm not even condoning speeding (lol), if you risk it and get caught, tough shit, we all know the risks.

Rant over, fuck the law.

Yes, it's complete bullshit.

He got 250 hours community service? I've heard of career criminals like burglars getting community service (when they should be fucking jailed) but NOT THAT MUCH! Twisted Evil That's the maximum you can get, or close to it.

For 120mph. That's not even that much.

They considered jailing him... Rolling Eyes What a fucking bench!

Fine, that's your opinion, but please expand.

I lived in Germany, where I was legally allowed on certain stretches of the autobahn to drive at 150 mph. If the traffic was light, the conditions were good and my car up to it, I could do it. I was fine, I did this many times and nobody died.

So am I still an evil person who deserves to be banned because I did exactly the same as what some people in this country have been caught of, but in Germany?

I thinkv in itself 120mph is not a problem its the context you may be doing it in. As far as can tell from the images the road looked pretty clear, no hazards present. On the other hand there are situations where 120 would be totally unreasonable. Personally I think they should concentrate on truly dangerous or reckless driving, that really deserves a ban far more than speeding for a few minutes in what looked like a straight line, probably the safest way he could have done it...

I get bans in some situations, but from the looks of that its a relatively empty wide carriageway, doubt it would 'statstically' cause much more risk or chance of death / oblivion occuring that if he was going 70.

Obviously if you're going 120 down a small town road were theres houses at the side etc then yes you deserve to be banned, bit extreme in this case for 18 months, especially as people have pointed out when drink drivers commandeering huge 4x4's get fuck all if any sentances in comparison Rolling Eyes

I know you didn't ask, but my 2p. The German Autobahn is different, because everyone knows any vehicle could be doing 200mph
On the roads here, where there is a max, people expect a certain level of speed.

Of course people should not assume, they should look and be aware. We all have a responsibility to look after our own health, by that I mean you shouldn't bitch if you pull out in front of a car doing 120 just because you think he/she should have been doing 30.

Personally I think we always seem to aim for the lowest common denominator. You can't tell me it's always more dangerous for someone to do 100mph than 50mph.
100mph on a motorway at 3am, or an empty road with good visibility is very different from someone doing 50mph in 20mph zone at 3:30pm in winter.

Looking at the vid of this guy, he undertook a police car, and possibly the silver clio looks like it didn't check to see if was clear, looks like this maybe forced a lane swerve from the bike, maybe. Either way, he's not only doing 120mph, but undertaking at that speed. It wasn't a great manoeuvre.

It is bullshit. Speed limits should only apply in hazardous areas/conditions. If I wanna do 100mph I will, and so far have got away with it, fingers crossed I will keep getting away with it because im fucked off with health and safety. Evel Knevel would be tampin in his grave if he could see this shite. Sod safety I say speed like a bullet, turn like a bee.

Being a generally law abiding and tax paying citizen that has never not worked I sometimes wonder why I just don't stop paying taxes and start screwing the state. The police have never contributed anything to my well being, anytime I might have needed help from them they were too busy or my request wasn't a high enough priority.

Just about every time I go out on my bike they are hiding behind bushes pointing their toys at me. Is doing 72 in a 60 in the middle of nowhere early on a Sunday morning such a heinous crime? Of course it isn't but it's a nice little earner.

Who decided that speeding was an abomination and that speeders should be caught at all costs. What member of the public was asked if they wanted the police to pursue speeding road users as a higher priority than just about any other crime. In whose election manifesto was ridding the nation of speeding road users mentioned? Nobody has ever asked me what I want from the police and when I request help I am ignored.

Looking back on over 35 years on bikes I have nothing but negative experience of the police. Being harassed continually as a 17 year old for no reason other than I was a young guy on a bike still sticks with me. Nowadays they seem to want to be our friends with supposed safety campaigns and the like. In my neck of the woods they come out with the same old shite every year. Fuck them, I've stayed alive this long without their help.

I am not for a moment suggesting that there be a free for all on the roads but threatening a rider with jail for doing 120 when possibly to all intents and purposes there was no real danger seems bizarre. It's even more bizarre when I see speeding motorists in the village where I live, driving regularly at 60+ in 20 and 30 mph zones past schools and kids play areas. In 20 years I've never had a radar gun pointed at me in the village but if I get my bike out and venture to the middle of nowhere they are as common as the sheep. Evil or Very Mad

We live in an hysterical world now. There's more horror than ever before but people get ridiculously worked up about someone going fairly quickly on a bike, or having a slash on a bouncer, or rubbing themselves with a giant foam finger Laughing

But ignore the fact that thousands of people are being tortured, starved and murdered all over the place.

On my way to Brighton the other week, about 6am, had some guy on...not sure, some kind of Honda...come by me doing about 150. I was impressed by the beautiful line he took and the rock solid stability of the bike despite the slight lean as he took the sweeping bend.

And then compare that to when I'm doing 60 on the old RXS and some fuckstick in an Audi gets within 3 inches of me going past at 65. I know who I'd string up by the testicles.

The biker because of that reckless speed, all those kittens he killed and all those orphanages he could have landed on and destroyed if he crashed?

120 MPH on a motorway is OK IMO. Depends on the traffic but that looked safe. 120MPH in a 30 is an issue.

It's an unwritten rule you're gonna get dry fucked by a Magistrate/Sheriff for speeds over 100 MPH so 120 MPH should ensure you get a Gub full of Jizz too.

The tosser wasn't going so fast (Fast enough to get done) it was the manner he was riding the bike. Shit obs.

How many folk have seen unmarked police cars behind those poor fuckirz who get nabbed on the motorway.

The bastirts are out there everywhere and it's Russian Roulette with your license if you think you wont get 'picked on'.

I agree that bikers always get a hammering in court. The 'dirty biker rebel' image has not been eradicated yet.
Just read any of the threads on here concerning law and rules. Razz
