Hi,

Thinking about what bike to buy when I pass my test and I like the look of the Vara.
Unfortunately, I will have a restricted license, so I can not ride a bike past 47bhp. So I will have to get it restricted.

I am worried if I restrict the Vara's power by half I will kill its performance. Considering the weight of the bike I imagine this could be an issue.

Any advice?

Failing getting a vara I will prob get a BMW G650GS which is already 47bhp compliant.

Terrible idea, why would you even want one in the first place? Never mind restricting it.

Get the beemer, seems like a lot of hassle to restrict the Vara down.

Have you tried the Beemer? It's a doddle to ride, but it's a big single cylinder, and quite vibey. Fine around town, not so great at higher speeds.

If you're thinking about newish bikes, how about an NC700X instead?

My nephew restricted one of my old Africa Twins and it was a treat for him. No difference in performance as such just when it hit 80+mph.
I would imagine it would be the same for the Vara as they aren't for top speed so the restriction wont affect the low down grunt that they have.

You will have to look at the different ways of restricting them as you have the Carby and the Fuel injection models to play with.
