Im sure this has come up a dozen times before and by casting a search I see a few veteran members have given this a go.

Whats the best stuff to use, 3M I see is being recommended as a quality standard? what does 3m actually stand for, is it a brand? thickness? or what..

If I take it slowly over winter is there any reason why I shouldnt be able to wrap a set of GSXR750 Srad fairings ready for track use next year?

Vinyl is going to be far cheaper than spraying a set of fairings to look semi respectable so im thinking of pickinp up the cheap fairings and sanding them down before wrapping them?

I take it all stickers will have to be pulled off as they will show through?

Don't think of doing the tank, they are cunts.

I've got some 3M wrap here, its alright actually. It is cheap and tacky looking though, regardless of what type you buy. Thumbs Up

For track, might as well grab a can of primer, some stencils from somewhere and fuck the shit out of them with rattle cans.

It's a track bike they don't need to look pretty.

And you will look like a cock by making a bike heavier to make it look lighter.

Yes, the broader the brush, the better. Ideally a roller.

That kit looks pretty cheap, especially as it has the tank too. It's not even in China.

Just expect the tank lacquer to not be petrol resistant stuff. It might be, but assume it isn't. Thumbs Up

Sure its not the case with all of them also, but two of the three people i've known who have bought those budget fairing replacement kits have had major issues fitting them. They've got them on, but its taken various drilling and fitting of brackets etc to get them on properly as holes have been mis-aligned and so forth, really not worth the hassle in my opinion for something you can do a similar [if not better] job of yourself on your current fairing.

That's with ching chong fairings. If you buy from a seller you know is ok, you'll be fine.

Those are from Colchester, so I guess it's a set from someone's bike, thus any bodging would already have been completed.

I used to work in the sticky back plastic industry (yes, there is one!) and 3M stuff is usually the dogs doodahs. Very technical products using cast films and microsphere, two-part adhesive systems, etc. They're the ones that produce the chrome wrap vinyl that all the famous chavs are having their cars done in if I remember correctly.

Look into the application techniques (heat, fluids, etc) and you can get things looking pretty good. Not sure on the price of the stuff you want to stick on but a tank and fairings done in Poundland black or white wouldn't cost a great deal. Used these cans quite a lot recently and they give a good finish Smile

It will turn a nice bike with the chance of actually being a bit of a naughty bike into a skank of a bike,
Fake CF is a no go.
