As far as I know, 636 has got a bit more of torque, power and more ''sporty'' gearbox. I also have this one on my to buy list. Thumbs Up

ZX6R's below 1997 had frame that cracked every now and then.

I'd say do standard check for leaks, for cracks and after the test ride check the front brake if both discs are equally hot. 2000's till 2003 I think had six-pots from Tokico. Those brakes are good if maintained, but the set of seals can be around 55-60 pounds. It is common that from those 12 pots on the front wheel work only 5 to 7 pots.

A1P is softer and more comfortable. B1H is well equipped, sharp, fast, not very comfortable and not far off as capable as a modern 600, despite being 10 years old. Recommended.

I have an A1P and its about the most comfortable bike I have owned. Its not as nice looking as the B1H model, but I got a low mileage minter at a good price and could see myself keeping it as a nice all-rounder if I get something even faster in a couple of years.

If you can afford a B1H id hold out and wait for a cheap C1H or even C6F 05/06 model, can get them for similar prices if you keep a regular lookout and snap them up. 636 is just that little extra really, only noticable difference will be your tax band being higher and possibly a tad more on the insurance Thumbs Down great bikes though

My J2 is 599cc, quite low power at low revs, but once it go over 7k rpm it makes me grin even now after all those miles done on it. 636cc would be better, if you can get that go for it.. but J2 is great, and don't hesitate if you get one for a good price. Probably not noticable speed difference between J2 and A1P, but A1P gives that little bit extra flexibility.
I'll be keeping my J2 purely for track days.

I love those Tokicos to be honest.. If they are maintained they brake really nicely. The previous owner neglected them and some were seized, but I stripped them, cleaned and changed all the seals and they are great. All 12 pots biting nicely those front discs. I don't ride in shit weather and winter so they will probably stay that way.

That will be my winter fun. Right brake disc is colder than the left one, but still awesome brakes. I use my middle finger to brake, it gives me more fingers on the throttle and better throttle control, plus the adjustable lever is a nice thing to have there. I'm gonna have to get new seals and give it some propper cleaning.

If you are considering The J1/J2, Don't rule out the G1/G2 (98/99) as they are basically the same bike.

The Tokico 6 pots are very good when well maintained, spongey as fuck if not.

What are they like on the track?

Been looking at these lately with a view to maybe turning it into a track bike.

Plenty of people seem to have G/J models for the track. I found my old E alright on a track and with updated brakes, suspension and -3 front sprocket seemed to keep up with the G/J models to a point (my inexperience / lack of bravery was probably most of the difference)

I've heard that the B was a much harder bike and more track oriented than the C and both are worlds apart from the 600cc models before and after them - consensus is that the 07 ZX6R should be avoided in favour of an older B or C.
I believe the A1P has 1bhp (or maybe it was 2?) over the J1/2 on paper due to a slight overbore, but picks up a bit better, not deemed worth the extra tax by many. The B and C however were longer stroke motors and made better torque.

Just to point out. You can swap the top fairing and.bracket, headlight, and front of the air intakes over and your G will magically become a J.

You can get a.good quality Chinese fairing.from eBay for £300 (injection moulded one, they tend to fit correctly) for £300, and not worry about colours matching up, then a £50 bracket from Motobrackets in Doncaster and you're sorted.

Or about £100 for an OEM top fairing and repaint it.
or pick one up a G in red or lime green and de-sticker it, buy a matching J top and you're sorted.

C6F is the best zx6r IMO, but I am biased.

636 FTW
