 |
|
Have got an old Cagiva 125 crosser (1987 Elefant I believe) - the guy I bought it off was mixing the oil at 32:1 but I've seen a few mentions on other forums suggesting running 45:1 or 50:1.
Wondered if anyone had any opinions??
Also, is it alright to use regular 10w 40 oil in the gearbox / clutch??
Any advice is much appreciated
Olly.
Obligatory photo whoring pic!

There's no separate oil filler, and being nearly 30 years old I just assumed it would be premix as standard... Will look into it ____________________ Previous: Cub50, NRG50, TS50, YB100, CB125, NSR125, ZZR600, CBF1000, SV650s, ZX6R B1H, XT250, Mito Powered Crosser, WRF450, , FZ600, VN800, GSXR600 - Currently CB1000R |

hi,
elefant is deffo premix only, auto lube wasnt available until a couple of years later.(i think the last elefants were 1988, 1st bike with auto lube was mito mk1 which came out 1990, in between was frecia, also pre-mix)
iirc any light gear oil is fine....
premix 33 to 1, wouldnt go as far as 50/1, maybe 40/1 max. only way to tell is by riding it, & plug chop at wot,(so get a couple of new spark plugs )
would put in best 2t oil i could afford,& the last time i rode one (in lucky explorer colours) it seemed to like being thrashed at above 8500rpm.
definately a bike worth keeping in good nick as becoming rarer & rarer....22bhp isnt bad, especially with a decent sprocket set up for the road...a bit trickier getting decent road going tyres though...
cheers,
GAZ, |

Cheers Gaz, good advice - It's never going to be on the road, it's only for messing about off road. ____________________ Previous: Cub50, NRG50, TS50, YB100, CB125, NSR125, ZZR600, CBF1000, SV650s, ZX6R B1H, XT250, Mito Powered Crosser, WRF450, , FZ600, VN800, GSXR600 - Currently CB1000R |
