So today I'm heading home, stupid dog runs into the road, so i swerve and open the throttle a bit to power around it.

Turns out there was a speed camera van behind me.

Question is, do these things just catch vehicles coming towards them, or both coming towards them and going away from them, when I pulled in to speak to the copper and ask her if I'd been done, it looked like the camera was pointing to the oncoming lane ( a fairly steep hill)

She said she will ring me tomorrow to tell me if I'd been done (she took my number down).

Please out me out my misery, really can't afford it at the moment.

Cheers, Liam

so, a dog ran out into the road, and you swerved and accelerated?

later on, you found a copper and admitted that you'd been speeding, and gave her the exact time, date, and place, then she took all your details and buggered off?

Neutral

(im not sure about the lanes thing tbh, I thought vans went either way from the back, whereas if you are driving towards / away from the front of the van you were ok Thumbs Down )

If you can't afford it at the moment then don't do it. We all do stuff, but you have to be prepared to accept the consequences if you do.

How come you didn't see the dog before it had run in to the road? Also, don't you ride a CBF125? It's not as if that bike will magically add on 10-20mph to your speed at the twitch of a throttle. Especially not if you were sitting at a normal RPM instead of up high in the rev range ready to race off? Confused

Considering that you've practically turned yourself in, I wouldn't be surprised if you got a "friendly" letter soon.

+1

The old 'the dog ate my homework excuse' ayy..

Sounds like utter bollock to be fair mate you could of easily maintained your speed, infact I can't see how hitting the accelerator on a 125 would help at all? Surley hitting the brakes would be better? Neutral

If you were actually paying attention you would of slowed down after seeing a stray dog and be prepared to swiftly brake.. Not 'oh fuck a dog shit (wide open throttle) fuck a speed camera van fuck'

Having read it back I can see why you would disbelieve my story, to be honest I think it needs clarifying, not spotting the van was shit obs, no denying that, however with regards to the accelerating, the dog was being walked by someone, and though I spotted them, by the time I realised they weren't going to stop before the dog shot across the road, I was close enough that braking wasn't enough, so I swerved slightly and accelerated, braking would have done nothing other than put me into danger

I apologise for the lack of clarity here, and for the record, yes, I do ride a CBF125, and I'm aware you see this as a pathetic little machine in comparison to your own bikes. However I'm not asking about what you ride or for your opinion on the acceleration of my bike. All I've asked is whether the van monitors both traffic moving away from the van and coming towards it, or just traffic heading towards the van.

It depends what the van was like and which window was being used, no? Usually it's coming towards but it depends...

I'm not convinced by your acceleration story, are we talking a 30 limit here? You can stop in a flash on a light 125 far more than you can unleash the power.

I killed a child today going 80 in a 20 zone. How can i get away with it? I don't want your shitty moral opinion I just want a straight honest answer. Rolling Eyes

If you're going to tell a story atleast go into enough fucking detail that we know what's happened. If you just wanted a straight answer then you should of just asked us the question you wanted the answer to or looked on google. Not told us your bullshit story about how you nearly killed a dog because you wern't careful enough.

As you should already know.. Always slow down and be aware of animals and small children. Especially if the dog is able to run away from it's owner (i'm guessing it was off it's lead and you saw that but assumed it wouldn't run into the road Rolling Eyes ).

I went triple the speed limit today, I hope I don't get caught, but I'll ask the coppers if they saw me.

If it really happened, I understand the OPs panic. I set off a speed camera last year or so when I was going under 30 and got hit by strong wind. Nearly went into the kerb so I accelerated to get out of it and flash. I emailed the people related to the speed camera and such, never got a response. never got a ticket. I did learn however to deal with strong wind, relax and don't worry about the feeling the wheels are about to tip you over. However, if you see something dart into the road, surely brakes is the first option?

Thank you to those who have actually tried to help, unfortunately it did happen, to be honest I've got better things to do with my life other than make up bullshit stories,
I'm not going to stoop to your level Rhys, and your whole ' I'm holier than thou' mindset.

Cheers guys, ill let you know what the (seemingly friendly) copper has to say when she rings tomorrow.

Even JiveBunny wouldn't do that. Laughing

Ahh, but I didn't necessarily admit it, I told her I swerved to avoid the dog and accelerated out of there, so I had no idea what my speed was Razz so I was asking her if anything

But yeah, the phrase 'shot myself in the foot' springs to mind Embarassed

... Wonder if they'll let me stamp my own points on too Rolling Eyes

Going to ask the copper if they saw you speeding Rolling Eyes really, c'mon son..

But regards the van - the 'mobile camera' is rear facing and used when stationary so wont of got you, however they may have front mounted general cameras like most cars - but if you did just momentarily speeded to avoid this mysterious dog i doubt they will do you for it.

Most likely she didnt notice and said she will let you know as she wanted to check the footage. However if you did indeed just momentarily speed up for a clearly videoed loose dog i wouldnt worry too much you could dodge that fairly easily in court id of thought Thumbs Up
