Some sections of motorway will have a 130km/h (80mph) limit while some urban roads will have an rather extreme 20km/h (12mph) limit.

Catalonia is the region with most speed cameras in Spain (by some distance) but I reckon this will be the start of speed cameras being put all over urban areas in the whole country. It's a decent moneymaker and, as everyone knows, the country is in the financial shit.

Christ knows where they're going to put these 12mph limits. Most single lane one way streets are already 30km/h. A 20km/h seems like overkill.

Is the information source reliable Mario? The 20 km/hr seems ridiculously low, but like you say, will be a real money spinner for the cops.

Some roads are probably those where there are play schools or that sort of more vulnerable pedestrian. 12 MPH will give most pedestrians hit by vehicles a better survival rate. Physics. Usually those KSI are minors who don't understand how traffic works.

I doubt it will make sense to '20 KPH' the whole country.

I wouldn't call the Spanish government reliable but it comes from them!

Some stuff coming out today about how speeding fines will be the same structure as before.

There's a very definite system of fines depending on the speed. 100 euros for going up to 150 km/h; 300 euros for between161 and 180 km/h; 400 euros 181 and 190 km/h; and 600 euros for going over 191 km/h.

There's a similar system for every limit.

The 20kmh seems like madness but I suppose it will depend on where it's actually placed. There are some very narrow streets where pedestrians share space with vehicles you can't go over 20kmh anyway.

Fuck your Spanish police. They durty bastirts got me for going along a one-way street in Ibiza one fine morning (it was dark) and shafted me for 120 Euros on the spot fine.

Doesn't the speedo on some cars start the numbering at 20mph, anything below that is just guessing?

Also at that speed you'll start getting cyclists overtaking the cars!

What's the legal limit for inaccuracy of measuring devices there? I mean if the limit says 20kph and they measure 23kph are you gonna have a problem?

They love taking tourists' cars. I had a Vespa years back that got taken to the pound. The whole places was chock a block with French, Dutch and British cars.
