I was speaking to my old instructor about these sessions and I was quite surprised to learn that for every 100 people who attend, less than 10 actually return to him for further instruction even though over 90% enjoyed the session and showed promise.
I thought this was a real shame as this is a very good riding school with superb instructors.

I just wondered how many of you people went back to the place you did your Get On.

Could there be an element of it being just long enough for people to think "Bloody hell, that's a bit harder than I thought!" and get put off taking it further? Thinking

Wifey went back to the same place she did her get on to do her cbt

They asked her to book straight away at the end of the get on but didn't pressure her to book, let her go away and think about it. I wonder how many apply the hard sell which puts people off

My Geton Experience was great, the instructor spent time with me and advised on what I would need to progress. There was no pressure to book further courses, he did ask me if I wanted to book but it was a gentle sell.
Altogether, very professional.
Went back for my CBT and a couple of extra hours training at the same school a few weeks after.
Will I do my DAS with them..? not sure yet...

If you ask me I think a lot of people do it just because its free and something to do a bit different. They probably have little or no inclination to ever ride. Those people probably make up a big chunk of that 90% figure.

I suppose if someone was offering an hours free surfing lessons or an hours free horse riding...I might do it just for the experience, but id be extremely unlikely to go and buy a horse and/or a surf board.

Did a Get On course and booked a CBT straight after. Not pressured into it at all but wanted to get it done ASAP. Wasn't the greatest place to do the Get On, helmet didn't fit properly and smelt very dodgy and had to share a bike with someone else. CBT was much better though.

I got handed a helmet that stunk (cos they were stored on the floor of a grotty old cabin), put it on, told the guy my ears were crushed. Did the free ride, head started hurting, at the end took it off & saw it was extra small Shocked On my CBT the guy looked at me, straight away went medium.

on my CBT the instructor said "your size large".....I said "nah im a medium".....he said "definitely a large" and handed me a size large helmet....it was way too big and wobbly on my head!...he then suggested a medium which fit perfect. Rolling Eyes

All four of the riders that did the Get On sessions when my Mrs did hers went back to do CBTs. It depends on the quality of the school - its a very good idea but you need the right instructors to give the right introduction to motorcycling.

I nearly drowned on my Get On experience, it was raining so hard. But the instructor was really nice and I went back there to do my CBT. I can't remember being pressured to book the CBT at the time, I just remember thawing out over a mug of hot chocolate and trying not to drip too obviously on their office carpet...
