here is a question, when I go into town on my bike I always park in a carpark the has barriers and you need to take a ticket to get in, and usually pay at a machine to get back out, but motorbike don't have to pay as the attendant lets them out. I know other car parks do this as well.
is that a inherent right of motorcyclist of just niceties from the companies?

It's because the companies can't always enforce motorcycle parking charges. It's not a right of motorcyclists, rather that motorcyclists would not make up a significant proportion of the revenue from the car park.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

No its not a right.....

Always read the signs when parking in ANY car park.

There are some that DO NOT ALLOW bikes to park even if you pay & display....

Yes, It was one of the things the Barons insisted King John agree to. There was some old guff about trial by jury but bike parking was the main bit.

It's also enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights, Article 2, Freedom of Movement, clause 5: "Whomsoever is lawfully within the territory of a Private Car Park shall, within that territory, have the right to weave around the gates like a sweet bad ass mofo."

100% FACT.

It is also a by-law that silly mofos on overly horsed motorcycles are permitted to mouth off at the Muppet controlling the barriers on the 'automatic' lanes of the Dartford bridge, coz said mofo went into the wrong lane (like a boss) Embarassed and then obviously couldn't turn around.

The Muppet was all set for an argument with me when a be-Jaguar-ed toff in the rapidly developing queue behind me shouted at him to 'just open the fackin' barrier'. Smile

it's usually due to bikes not triggering the barriers so they can't use the system.

one in sunderland you have to enter and leave via the pedestrian entrance.

some do have free bike parking areas within the carpark where you don't need to pay, such as dean street in newcastle, has a bay with bars to chain to for free.

now i'm back in manchester i've no idea where to park haha

Name and shame time.

North Lincolnshire Council you bunch of cunts!

In town the Scunthorpe Parishes multi-storey used to have a sheltered area inside the multistorey but got rid of it because they had problems and no camera inside facing that part - solution is to put all bikes outside and fit a camera outside!

it was absolutely pissimg down outside so I parked in a bay inside AND PAID and they attached a note to my bike threatening to fine me if I did it again. Cue me going and kicking off to the attendant who said "that's the policy we have a designated area for bikes". Couldn't show me on the board though....

I hope you schmacked the cnut? Mad

Very Happy Only kidding. You don't have to be the brightest bulb in the garden to do those jobs. I would have given the cnut the benefit.

I used to take a bag of chocolate caramels or a box of Tunnocks teacakes to the folks in the booth at Argyle St. shopping centre in Glezga. Never got my bike touched whenever I left it outside the office. Didn't aaaalways have to bribe them either. It's all automated now and the machines don't take graft. Sad

He tried telling me that "someone could pull in too quickly and hit your bike causing an accident" to which I replied "that's why everyone has to have insurance; because some fuckers can't drive! It could equally be a small child stood there for any number of reasons, or a mini cooper - equally hard to spot between two cars. If someone can't pull into a space carefully they need revoking"

Curiously the council didn't reply to my enquiry.....

That's got to be worth doing again just for a laugh. "Failure to not pay the parking charge"? Very Happy

Multi - stories are the best when they have barriers. I ended up getting off the bike and jumping up and down on the pressure pad that detects a car and lets out a ticket, needless to say it doesn't work. Had a nice security guard come over and use his wee swipe card to let me get in and park. The boy he was with ( apprentice?) basically went "motorbikes should park in the street... bla bla bla".

That's because they are usually electrical loops under the concrete laid in sawn slots. If they aren't sensitive enough for bikes try driving the bulk of your bike over one of the corners as this gives a bigger signal.

On topic, Sainsbury (or is it Morrison's?) car-park in Leeds Centre let bikes go free where as cars need the ticket stamped at cash till.

Our local stulti-morey has just had a rather nifty number plate recognition system, which is fine if you're in a car, but I seem to recall the cameras facing you as you arrive.......

fubar!

Q11:
https://www.highways.gov.uk/our-road-network/managing-our-roads/operating-our-network/how-we-manage-our-roads/area-teams/area-5/the-dartford-thurrock-river-crossing/frequently-asked-questions/#WhatarethearrangementsformotorcyclistsusingtheCrossing

snafu!

I experienced exactly the same treatment back in May en route to my Aunt’s funeral in Upminster (even though I don’t normally go norf of The River at this time of life, .Gov!) after having visited the website to obviate any possibility of contraflow to a smooth passage [Matron!] thereat.
Well, with such comprehensive info as A11 provides, WTF do they expect?

How about a mass protest of bikers descending upon each and every tollbooth, staggered so as to proceed in the order of bike-car-bike-car-bike etc. — gratis, to boot — until, a run for our money, the penny drops?

Or, with waives of apathy all around . . .
— I’ll just E-mail the Cnuts.
