Went to go for a wee run earlier, so got all the gear on and bike sorted went kind of like this.

Helmet - on
Jacket & trousers - on
Gloves and boots - on
Bag - on

Start up the bike put the side stand in, go to set off next thing im on the floor with the bike on top on me. Lying there thinking " what the f*ck, just happened?".

F*cking noob - left the disk lock on.

Next time, use the strap they provide or buy an alarmed disk lock.

I was saved from this fate MANY times purely because of parking my bike in a position I had to push it backwards before setting off.

I don't use a disk lock, but I've tried to ride off with the chain still on before... Laughing

Only ever did it once. Giant THUD and I thought I'd done massive damage. Knew immediately what it was, but it merely hit the stanchion and made a loud noise.

I use an old sock stuck over the throttle. Same idea as the bit of string that comes with some locks.

Watched my dad go 4 times in a row on gravel before he realised why it happened.

I've done it myself too, I was sat waiting to pull out into traffic for at least 5 minutes, So you can imagine how I pulled off when a gap open up Very Happy Que me almost going over the bars and buckling the disk (cb-1 discs are tough!).

I'm willing to bet that the majority of spelling/English/grammar Nazi's corrections are actually incorrect themselves:

Drive: to cause and guide the movement of (a vehicle, an animal, etc.): to drive a car; to drive a mule.

Perfectly acceptable (if a little uncommon) to 'drive' a bike. And, more importantly, you know exactly what she meant so learn what you're talking about before you complain and then just don't because there are far better things to do in life than trying to gain intellectual superiority by picking on the quality of hastily published messages on a chat forum!

Check you haven't damaged the brake calliper. Look carefully for any cracks in it or its mounting.

It's better to put a padlock through the rear sprocket. Bike just stops and tends not to damage anything if you forget to remove it.

Never done it with a disc lock, but In town we have parking bays for bikes, with railings that provide a bar to chain your back tyre to. First week I passed my test I took the missus in town for a bimble on the GT. Returned many hours later, on the bike we go...

*clunk*

Tried to ride still chained to the railing, just managed to stop us falling (and the GT wasn't light!)

Noobs, eh? Pah!
