My partner is getting his bike licence (NZ stuff from years back does not count here in the UK) . . .

Probably a Ducati Smile

Any avid Ducato fans here?

I know nothing of these bikes, but will be looking for a sports. maybe a Ducati 848 evo?

5k budget, so its cant be too new.

Are there any better options?

In b4 my brother's mate's uncle owned one and it blew up. Thumbs Up

999S for that money IMO. Highly underrated, and thus bargainous. Depends if you like their looks or not. I do.

I think they're awesome, I love the look (and sound) of the 998 and the 1098, I'd love to get one. My brother in law doesn't like them at all though, reckons they're unreliable bone shakers.

I've got an M900 and love it. It's thunderously loud, quick and handles like a dream. My OH has an M750 which is a lovely bike to ride. They look and sound fantastic. Thumbs Up

Ride before you buy is all I will say. But yeah, I'd be looking at 999's.

I +1 this. I borrowed one from a guy on here, amazingly decent machine for what it is. Shame they don't have the bag'o'spanners rattle though

I'm used to things sounding broken and rattling around, it doesn't feel like home if it doesn't rattle Laughing

Hmm, I can take or leave the clutch rattle, but when you start to open it up and hear that twin roaring away, unbeatable.

I'd really like to test ride one.

Althought those nakid ones look good, it would be a faired bike he gets.

I was informed by someone from here who has always had and tracked IL4 sports (Kawasaki etc) that he hated the handling of his Ducati and swiftly sold it one.

I'm wondering if they are more image than anything else.

KTM Sports wa sa suggestion . . . But think they only do a thou.

I don't know if it's entirely about image, but I don't think it's a bike you can commit to without having first tried one.

They're generally slow steering, stable. I'd really like a go on a new Panigale which is supposed to be pretty revvy.

Personally, having owned a couple, I can say that I'm not that fussed. There are aspects of them I like. Generally (ST4 excluded) they're quite nice to work on. They normally come with decent suspension and brakes from the off.

I've ridden / owned a 749 (liked) 748 (no) 916 (no) 900SSie (liked at the time, doubt I would now) ST4 (no, barge) 600 Monster (DD bike - handled well, slow).

Depends what he wants from a bike, his riding style, how much of a tart he is etc etc.

Funny headlights.
Then the Augusta F4 is let down by the headlights!

That's cheap. Don't think early 749 engines were the best though.
