Anus, prepare it.

Ride from Blackpool to lands end, then back up north, then back down rather than a van Wink

If I were you, I'd not bother looking at the replies from here. Charity rides don't go down well here. Laughing

Oh dear oh dear. Do it on your hands, feet in the air with a blind fold on then I'll consider bunging a few quid in.

Have you any idea just how utterly pissed off people in the highlands are at cunts like you holding up traffic on our only trunk road?
Dont fucking do it. It's not big and it's not clever. And it makes you look like a total fucking spastic.

Right, now thats off my chest, where do I donate?

C90's and an ER5? Lol.

And it's like 850 miles, in a week - it's hardly a challenge really is it. 1000 miles in 24 hours has been done on a c90 before.

The surface of the A9 north of Inverness is primarily squashed clown noses and tattered shreds of bunny costumes. Crying or Very sad

Rolling Eyes The whole charity must be spam thing seems to be going a bit OTT, if it's a brand new user coming along and trying to get people to donate in their first post then that is one thing but this is somebody who has been on the forum for more years than pretty much anybody who replied, and longer than most of those who Thumbs Down'd it, it's hardly spam when the guy has almost certainly met members of the forum face to face.

Or if a friend asks for a donation to a charity do you consider it the same as the local takeaway shoving a leaflet through your door? Because stop me if I'm wrong but that is basically the real life equivalent of Spam.

If they're a regular user then they'd know how charitable BCF is.

Justgiving charity requests on facebook = report as spam.

I used to do that sort of mileage on my Chinese 125 just for a ride out!

A better way to do it, which would make it a challenge would be: The further you can get in 12 hours, the more money we pay you. That way you will actually be working for the money, thus showing support for the charity.

He's made 5 posts this year, and each time has been after something. And 2006? Noob Smile

Burrrn. I knew it smelled of booty call.

I'll try to break it down as simply as possible.

OP is a well meaning chap, going on a jolly on his bike. This is good.

"Blood"[*] bikers are well meaning chaps, going on jollies on their bikes. This is also good.

Where it falls apart is that there's no connection between these two facts. OP was and is going anyway. We're not sponsoring him to do it. If he never bothers, or his C90 shits itself being wheeled into the van, the donations are still made.

OP wrote:
I'm going to spend my money on my jolly.

Oh, hey, how about you guys give your money (plus 20% of everyone's tax money) to another group of fellows who want to go for rides on their bikes?

Again: everyone involved is doing it from the very best of intentions, but it's just another "Hey, I'm going for a bike ride. Oh, yeah... [rattle rattle]" post.

If the answer to all that is "Yeah, but chaaarity" then we're really just down to grunting and pointing.

[*] Despite the dramatic name, I understand that much of the work involves taxiing around patient notes, with an occasional bit of boob juice for variety. Actual human-parts are much rarer. A very few groups, like ScotsERVS are actual "emergency vehicles", legally able to use sirens and blue lights. Most groups are not, even when they choose to put blue lights on their vehicles.

When I did my round Britain tour people asked if I was being sponsored for charity I told them no, because it would be like asking people to sponsor me to eat pies or watch strippers or something.

LEJOG on any form of motorised transport is NOT putting yourself out. It's fun and as such does not deserve sponsorship of any kind.

Do it on a pushbike and I'll think about it but it's still been done so often it's getting boring.

Be a fat, lazy bastard who hates cycling and do it on a bicycle and I'll throw my shrapnel in your bucket.

Be a fat lazy bastard and WALK the fucker for a cause you believe in and I'll probably sponsor you something.

Be a fat, lazy bastard, walk it and run a sweepy on your finishing weight in 100g increments with a decent bottle of scotch as a prize and you can have my fiver.
