Hello,

I may be parking one of my bikes/cars soon and it is going to get some rest for a while ( at least 4 to 5 month ).

What should I do to keep the battery in a good condition?

My car battery which was working perfectly fine and had an amper rate of 60ah which my car only needs 40ah was drained in a space of 2 days when I unplugged the plugs to ensure no current goes through it but to my surprise it was drained and even after charging it up using the car for 2 hours ( driving the car) it is still flat.

I did also put it on my battery charger for 10 hours but still flat .

I don't know what happened suddenly to a very happy battery that was working fine for over 2 years . any ideas?

I have now bought a new battery and want to ensure the same doesn't happen to it

Many thanks

Unplug the battery and top it up occasionally or leave it hooked up to something like an optimate.

If you can keep it somewhere warm it should prolong it a bit more too.

so do you think I am making a mistake by getting a new battery which I am going to use for only 2 days before it is unplugged and left there for another 6 month or so ?

Yes.

Buy it just before you intend to use it.

It sounds possible something might be wrong with the vehicle's charging but if you have limited time to investigate it, and have already bought a new battery, it would be safest to put it on an optimate or similar - but off the vehicle (or at least disconnect in situ)

Two years is not good but not unheard of for a battery to fail especially if the vehicle is not in regular use, so it could just be that and all will be well when you use it again.

well I can cancel the order but have previously had batteries that was unused for a while and when charged back all ok

I don't want to connect a charger to it for 6 month or so , thus really thinking if I should cancel it or just take the risk buy it and after 6 month charge it back

is the battery a "fill the cells yourself as it comes dry" type?

if so just dont open the electrolyte stuff an leave it dry, then when your prison sentence is finished (thats why you are not using the bike for 6 months isnt it?)

pour the acid in an enjoy your new 6 month old battery
