Scooter riders - no etiquette?

Has anyone else noticed that whilst most bikers will wave or nod or somehow acknowledge another bod on two wheels as they pass each other, most of the ignorant gits riding scooters dont?
Maybe I am turning into a grumpy old man, and apologies to any scooter riders that dont fall into this category - but as for the rest of you ignoramuses - get some manners.

I think its a case of us bikers being the ignorant party and the ped boys have learnt to expect us not to nod. If you see what I mean.

I think you are generalising a bit there. I nod to all bikers and scooter riders. Your average ped boi won't nod back and a lot of the grannys on C90's have no idea whats going on! But I think that most bikers nod back to me, although your right, as less of the scooterists do. although having said that any of the people on vespas and lammies will nod back. Just nod to everyone and if they don't nod back thats their loss.

I'm not saying all bikers ignore the scooter folk but alot do. Only nod to certain scooter folk myself. If I've seen them riding like t1ts then I don't bother. So if bikers ignore then maybe they 'learn' that they won't get nods.

Maybe some scooter folk consider themselves to be a part of a differant group?

I agree about the lambrettas and vespa riders - they do generally nod - which is a bit confusing for me because back in the late 70s/early 80s i used to be a mod and have a Lambretta jet 200 (I know, I know - Im better now thanks) - got kicked off it 3 times in total by bikers in Bham...ah, happy days! Would much rather have the VS800 ive got now though!
Ive just moved back to the mids from Cheshire - you cant move for all the chavs riding scooters in Liverpool and Wirral - they sould bring out a burberry check one - would sell a million.

I've had something like 3 scooters nod to me in my life. I nod to them when I'm in the mood but most can't see you from the tinted visor.

you might be right there - nothing funnier though than a tiny on a 50cc at full throttle and head down - trying to be streamlined so they can get above 40mph. Ah bless.

I don't nod to scooter riders. The fact is they're not bikes. Sure they're the bikers of tomorrow, but until tomorrow comes and they get a bike there's no chance.

I mean, you could quite well be nodding to a 60 year old who's just nipped to the shops for her husbands hemorrhoid cream.

Im not biased against the chicken chasers or anything at all. Im a 'power ranger' as its so nicely put and I show courtesy to any and all where its due. Last week I had a ped rider wave at me at a junction, I waved back - gobsmacked. Just as a moped rider will ride past you and ignore you, so will a bigger bike rider. If they dont want to be friendly its up to them its not going to break my heart.

Yesterday I approached a junction about to turn left, a car was in position indicating and waiting to go right. She changed a mind and without looking started off left. I just stopped and helm my ground until she seen me. The big shock was when her boyfriend/husband or whatever wound the window down (manual not electric) and said 'sorry about that mate' and gave me a wave. I nearly dropped the damn bike in shock.

Is it me or are some people actually quite nice?

Blimey - thats a tough one - it is and it isnt - Im not saying I want to go biking with granny and her ilk, just that bad manners really piss me off (and no - not the band). I dont agree with discriminating against scooter riders just coz they ride scooters otherwise where do you stop - not nodding to anything below 250? Only nodding to bikes the same make as your own? Ah gonads to it - maybe I should fit exocets and teach the t**ts some respect.

I agree with this thread. I don't think, a few of them, don't have any etiquette.

MOST, not all, of the peds near me are complete muppets. They ride, (if you can call it riding) like tw*ts. They weave in and out of stupidly small spaces in dangerous places, and at college they park up in stupid places where it says 'DO NOT PARK BIKES HERE' I just can't see there common sence.

I will nod to a ped if i think they are worth nodding to. If i see them prating around or i recognise the bike, and know that the owner is a muppet i won't nod. You have to give some of them credit tho for wanting to ride a ped. (no offence to you 'good' ped riders). Thats just my opinion.

I think they dont nod because they are unaware that people do nod. Before i came to this website and found about about nodding, i never used to nod at all. In my mind it was like "I dont see car drivers nodding at each other" so it never even crossed my mind about bikers nodding to each other...

I used to nod a lot but no one ever nodded back. However today i got my first EVER nod at Bexley village (Bourne Road). He actually nodded first. It made me feel all warm inside

I will usually nod or flash at anyone on two wheels, I don't care, but, I usually refrain as i'm too busy trying to hold on to the slappy rocket between my legs.

Mostly I'll get completely blanked by peds unless they're trying to race me.

I nod at a few, very rarely returned, I learn not to nod at them because they don't get returned, and in turn they don't nod to me because I don't nod first... vicious circle.

Grrr. I wish some of you would extract your heads out of your arses and get a grip!

The bloody reason we don't nod is because only about 2 out of 10 nods gets an acknowledgement. I get some people who will resort to applying a middle finger or blatant look away just because I wave/nod.

We don't have manner problems, well I don't - I'm not your average ped boi.

Well another school of thought would be that most of today's "scoota-rydaz" as they're called in my "hood" will be migrating onto corsas and novas come next year when they reach 17, so any form of etiquite here will be somewhat wasted. It'll probably take them until next year to figure out how to balance the bike properly whilst oscilating ones neck!!! (don't take any offence)

I guess this maybe specific to northwest London, but whenever you nod at them, these pricks will probably think you fancy racing them down the A5 - not good when he thinks it'll be nice to filter down the opposite end, playing chicken with a bus, and my, have i been in that situation before (guy was filtering like a nobend).

As for bikers, some nod, some don't, never used to get nodded when i was on an NRG - me nodding to a middle aged R1 rider - he must have been thinking "Smug git!". But nice to see many peeps nodding at me on my XR, cept theres some guy that won't acknowledge me whenever i meet him at the opposite lights at the SAME time, every morning. Oh well, can't win em all. The best nod i got was by some looney CBR6 rider coming in hot on Harrow-On-The-Hill, blind bend, clocked me, gave me a nod - obviously nodded back. If any of you are familiar with the area - it's in front of the post office (Mrs Dave's shop) near the harrow school dorms
