If you're thinking of buying a car, why not use that budget to get and insure a commuter bike that's known for being happy with high millage.

sure, a Honda deauville isn't the most exciting bike in the world, but it's two wheels and will get you there and back happily.

Good muffs are very good at keeping your hands warms. One of the bits you most want to keep warm.

If you managed around 50mpg you'd be spending at least £20 per day. So £100 a week or over £400 a month.

If it's the same place every day, you could probably rent a room very close to your work for that or less and save yourself a lot of time, stress and possibly money.

If you manage to make it 2 hours each way, plugs 7.5 hours working, 1 hour lunch and 8 hours sleeping that's 3.5 hours left to wash, shave, dress, eat and the like before you get maybe a couple of hours max with your gal'.

Id agree with G. I have an occasional 3-4 day 120 mile commute. Tryed it on the bike in good weather and got tired even then. Cars not much better once it becomes a slog of a routine. Cheaper to find a room to rent or even budget hotels sometimes, no point being 'at home' if youre to knackered from travelling to do anything anyway.

I think G is on the money with that. I live 100 miles from where I work, I can do it in 1.5hrs on a good day, 2 in traffic. No way would I consider commuting every morning, I save that for the Sunday night and Friday afternoon.

I think 100 miles each way would become tiresome very quickly, even in optimal conditions, add to that the weather and traffic hams/crashes, and you'll want to give it up!

fuel is gonna be £100 a week easy. Tyres, chain etc.

You would do an oil change almost every week

If you dont want to rent a room. 100 miles is 1.5 hours - 2 hours. Train is 2.5 hours. Why not train and save the strain of riding

I agree with Kai.Wilson. I commuted 65ish miles each way for a few months and it was hell. The only reason why I commuted was because it was cheaper than staying up there for 4 nights a week.

At 100 miles each way its almost certainly going to be cheaper to stay up there. You don't need luxury, just the cheapest smallest room you can handle.

So in regards to petrol etc. I am given 45ppm business mileage.

The problem is my timetable:

Monday - work from home
Tuesday - Aldershot
Wednesday - Tidworth
Thursday - Thorney Island
Friday - Tidworth

I was looking at renting a room in Tidworth but would still be the same commute to Thorney so didnt really make much sense.

I am hitting the M25 so much that a car is defo out of the question.

I cant really relocate as I have just bought this place with the mrs

Tbh I am speaking to the company over this week as I thought it would just be Aldershot which is about an hour away. But I cant sustain 1 hour 45min commute eahc way 3 days a week. No chance.

If they cant move me to a different site I will have to sack it in but am then scared about not being able to find another job!
