I had my first two hours out on a big bike today. A Kawasaki er6n. I was fine when I got to the riding school, got all my kit on and fitted with a radio then out of nowhere it started to rain, piss it down in fact. Then the nerves kicked in. I stalled the bike at first as I was afraid of giving it a fist full and wheelieing off but once I got used to the clutch it was fine.
It was a very enjoyable couple of hours apart from the soaking I got and my very cold numb hands. I thought my gloves where warm until we started getting above 20 mph.
Roll on next lesson.

Not much help when you're learning, but when you get your own bike fit a set of Tucano Urbano handle bar muffs in the cold seasons. No more cold wet hands.

Definitely will need something like that, I didn't realise how cold it would be, the rest of me kept fairly warm, just my hands.
I'm quite happy I've ridden in the rain now though. I was worried about practicing emergency stops in the wet but after the first couple of goes I got to grips with it.

Winter gloves are significantly better but there's a degree of loss of feel.
I have a thinsulate pair will fit under normal gloves, which is toasty but even less feedback - care needed.

If you are a bloke. Man the fuck up. and grow a pair.

If you are a woman. Either do the same or fit heated grips and don't ride between the end of October and the beginning of May.

This post has been brought to you by a non-feminist, unpopular but entirely accurate gender biased view of human physiology which recognised that females are provably more sensitive to peripheral temperature imbalance than men.

If the cold was a big cause try a thin pair of thernal gloves inside your mc gloves. Slight loss of sensation but so minimal id think the cold would be worse.

I use spada enforcer wp gloves and thin thermal ski gloves in winter riding in 0 to -5 and its tollerable for a couple of hours.

Definately a big boost using heated grips and muffs if theyre an option though Thumbs Up

One non-obvious thing that helps with the hands is to layer up on the rest of your body. You feel the cold in your hands because you have temperature-sensitive nerve endings there, but you are actually cold everywhere. If you keep your middle warm, the hands will be less of an issue. I know someone who wears a heated waistcoat and he rides in light-weight gloves all winter.

Oh, and also get some muffs.

Get couple of these under your normal gloves: https://www.army-eshop.cz/shops/8289/images-goods/15493A.jpg

It's gonna be a bit too warm above 0°C, but I covered some miles in -10°C and it was just fine. No ABS style braking from shaking hands. Thumbs Up

EDIT: OR, get an ZX7R, riding that bike feels like being in the country sitting by the fireplace. Laughing

It's September. Wait until it's December before you complain your hands are cold, this is nothing.

The thing is most riders won't go far in December but you might still put in some long runs this time of year.

At 60mph a 10C chilly morning will feel much like a 10C mild afternoon in December.

Remember, if you have too many layers you'll just end up sweating which will cool and make your hands even colder so don't overdo it.

Never try them, but running gloves tend to be thinner, they may be good for layering.
