Hey guys.

I decided to throw some frame sliders on my 1997 Fireblade today. Right side took about 5 minutes, not a problem. Unfortunately, the left side didn't go so smoothly.
The engine mounting bolt was pretty tough to break, but i got it and it started to come out. When it was nearly out, though, it became really tough. I played with it a bit, but stopped because I thought I'd break something. I supported the engine with a jack, but the bolt is still in there pretty good. I could get it out, but wanted to ask opinions here, first. What do I do?

I have a date in an hour, so I'm a bit stressed, but the bike takes priority.

Here, have some pics. It's hard to get the ones from the back.

I can't find it, and when I search, it says 'no products with photos found.'

It's the lower left hangar bolt.

It's the lower of the two #23
It goes into the engine case. The upper one goes into the head.

I have just removed and put back my engine in my 97 fireblade.

That bolt should release with some effort but they are not torqued massively, 29lb/ft.

Get some WD40 down the thread. I would also put it on a paddock stand and bear the weight of the engine very gently with a trolley jack, even though the other mounts should sufficiently bear the weight.

With my engine supported in this way I could thread the rod that my R&G bungs mount on to all the way through from one side to the other by hand.

Could I spray some on there and then tighten it back up to grease the threads? What concerns me is that it is almost all the way out, can't be more than a few millimeters left, and it's gotten really tough to turn again, just want to make sure I'm not making a mistake.

so, its an engine support bolt, which bolts engine to frame...........

with some lube, screw it back in.............does it go back in ok??

hope thread hasnt stripped or come out with the bolt and is now jamming...........

may be that engine has "dropped slightly" and jamming the bolt.........

the bolt since being undone, has come out as far as it has "straight" and not come out "cock eyed"...........??

lube and screw back in......does it go back in easily and "straight" or are you fighting it??

now you know the power of cmsnl and its free!!!!!!!!

The engine is supported very well by the other engine mounts but as I say, you need to put the bike on the paddock stand and slightly take the weight of the engine with a trolley jack.

Obviously jacking up too much will cause you the same problems as the engine mounts bearing the full weight with no support underneath.

You literally need to just get the jack touching the sump and the lightest of movements just to "help" bear the weight.

I can remove the threaded rod for my R&Gs by hand using this method.

It is not coming out as the engine needs supporting from underneath.

Only the crankcase has a thread on it, the frame mount does not.

Sorry for the belated response. I broke my socket wrench and sliced open my hand. Exchanged it at the store and convinced them to throw in a cheap but functional torque wrench. Came back and knocked out the job in no time. I lubed the bolt and worked it back and forth for a bit. She complained that it was too tight at first, but it eventually loosened up and BAM, I was done and ready for a nap.

Ignore the white , the black caps arrive next week.

Thanks guys, +rep to ya both.

Oh, and I had to cancel the date, but my baby comes first. The girl got mad, but that probably works in my favor anyway. Laughing
