I'm absolutely flabbergasted. Mr Yaigis 2000 plate Fazer passed it's MOT today. It just keeps going and going, and it has the least amount of attention paid to it out of any vehicle we've ever owned. It's like the angel child. It's left outside (albeit under a cover, but still), taken out rather sporadically, cleaned maybe three times in the 6 years I've known him, had minimal service things done to it, gets a good thrashing when he does go out on it, etc. etc. and it just never grumbles. Bit of a blow in the front part of the exhaust but not enough to fail, and the back brake is sticking a bit (he had to hammer it before he set off this morning!) for which he got an advisory, but another year on the road ahead of it with minimal money spent.

It was originally bought from a scrappy as a Cat C write off, he's certainly had his moneys worth out of it that's for sure!

Makes me think, there are so many people who meticulously 'look after' their bikes, is it worth the effort!?

What bikes have you had that just seem to keep going with not much attention needing to be paid to them? I'm hoping my Fazer is as well behaved for that amount of time when I get back on it!

Thumbs Up on the pass, but sorry can't agree with the Karma for not looking after any bike. Just my view, but you don't look after a car, a wheel bearing fails and you grind to the side of the road, your annoyed, same on a bike, you grind down the road.

I'm not saying I clean the bike after every ride, I commute on it, but I sure as he'll make sure nothing is about to fall off on a regular basis.

An MOT means the bike was road worthy on the day it passed, you still need to keep it that way or you are at fault in the event of it failing from lack of care.

I'll probably get abused for this so ill just nip out and get the vas!

Still love mine, hasn't missed a beat. I may not ever get rid of it, just maintain and rack up the miles on it, even if I buy a bigger bike for fun at the weekends, the fazer can be the trusty workhorse.

Fazers are great and can take a lot of abuse.
The back brake is a well known weak spot and the pistons will seize up completely in time if left.
The collector section will rot thru if its the original black steel exhaust pipe.

I did say minimal, not none whatsoever Wink And by minimal I meant he does keep an eye on anything that could be dangerous, as do I Thumbs Up

I bet the Fazer you get falls to bits in 2 days and you'll come shouting at me now haha Laughing I should put a disclaimer at the end of my first post *don't go out buying a Fazer on my word, Mr Yaigi might just be a lucky sod*

My cb1 is 23 years old, doesn't get covered up at all it does get serviced regularly but rarely washed,

still runs like a top, only ever failed an mot test on a delayed brake switch action, wriggled It and all was good for about 18 months.

Keep your wheel bearings cleaned and lubed, Yamaha tend to use open bearings for some reason.
