Hello

I have been riding a 50cc scooter but is clearly much too small for me. I want to buy a new 125cc motorcycle (not scooter) with a max load of at least 130kg. I have £1,600.00 to spend and I would welcome any advice on what to go for.

How long do you intend to keep it? Are you just on a CBT?

Honda CBF 125? Max load 180kg on that. Nice little bikes and amazing fuel economy. Cheap to insure as well. I paid about £200 TPFT when I just had my CBT and no no claims.

You typed it, I'll assume you meant it.

AJS Eco or Eco Custom, both JS125 bikes made by Jianshe-Yamaha, who make the "Yamaha" YBR125 and YBR125 Custom. We've had credible reports that they're much the same bike, with a carb instead of FI.

If you didn't mean "new", then a Honda Varadero 125. If you want large, go properly large.

I am just on a CBT. I would expect to keep the bike for a couple of years.

Tef-rant here. I suspect that that "AJS" is actually a Jinlun JL125.

"Regal Raptor":

JL125

Jinny owners actually seem to like their bikes, and the parallel twin engine is surprisingly sweet, if comically underpowered. But they're barges, I took one round a car park and that was enough to let me know that I didn't want it (although I forgot all that when I got my LF250-B...).

I'd again suggest the Eco Custom. It's more of a commuter bike with some cruiser styling cues than a proper raked out cruiser. I'd have the former every time, from experience.
