503lbs? That's about what my R100RT weighed. Wouldn't want to try to crawl out from under one of those.

Oh, and fugly.

Probably more torque though and a more usable power curve for 'adventure riding' (whatever that might be...)

Bullshit.

My standard TL motor is 129 BHP and 81lb-ft of torque. just with open pipes and a flash of the ECU. It is also 999cc.

To make the "new" motor meet various regs they have dumbed it down.
That motor has so much potential its a waste in there, they may have well just bunged an SV650 motor in it and been done with it.

What a waste.

But the torque is probably much lower down in the powerband and spread over a wider rev range - plus as you mentioned it has to meet various emissions regs as a new production bike which your bike with aftermarket exhaust and ECU doesn't!
Also its an 'adventure bike' so they probably wanted to make the engine characteristics friendly for adventure riding (whatever that could possibly be, its beyond me...) rather than the sort of power output you might expect from something sporty like your TL.

'. Suzuki hasn’t released a torque figure for the bike yet, but says it now develops more than the TL’s 77lb-ft at a lower point in the revs — 4,000rpm.'

It's about torque and fuel economy. This is relevant to my interests.

There might be a market for it, but the claimed £10K price is no cheaper than the KTM 990 or the Tiger 1050, so expect the usual hefty Suzuki "discounts" on that.

I could see myself on one, except that it's too heavy, too complicated, and too expensive. In particular I can do without paying for traction control, and I can definitely skip being a guinea pig for Suzuki's first attempt at it.

As a used buy a couple of years down the line - after someone else has dealt with any warranty and recall work - maybe. You guys should all go and buy one... Wink

I'm with Rogerborg.

Too many funky electrical bits to go wrong for my liking...

Oh and it'll be out of my price range for about 4 years!

I honestly think in 10 years time we'll all look back at these GS inspired behemoths and say haha holy fuck did guys actually ride those things and think they'd go off road and be able to pick the fucker up again without incurring a ball-bag full of stomach lining and 6 months on the sick with chronic recurrent lumbago.

I've always thought that was the thing about them, too big, heavy and overpowered to be any real use off-road surely? I suppose a bit like expensive 4x4s that never see the dirt although they assumedly do have some off-road ability despite the road bias.

Because they are like SUVs in the car world.. Completely useless in proper off-road situation. Kinda make me think it's for posers mainly same as with SUV owners Wink They handle like shit, they are heavy and not very economical, and as I mentioned not off-road unless you class the flat gravel roads as off-road Wink

To me they look like shit, but that's just personal preference.

Oh, absolutely. My "GS" is never going further off-road than my garage. It would be ridiculous to "adventure" on a bike like this without at least two other riders (or a camera crew) who can lift it up after it's fallen on you.

I went for the F650GS specifically because it's the more honest "road" version of the F800. Solid wheels rather than wire, lower (RWU) suspension, longer gearing.

Why a GS then? It does what I want from a commuter bike, and it fits me and my riding style perfectly.

Economical, flexible engine, built-in mounts for a huge top-box, and the low down weight makes it stable and very easy to ride. Soft suspension for the patchwork potholes that count as UK roads, and just enough poke for overtakes.

The upright posture, low seat and low pegs make the ergonomics absolutely ideal for me. I find the riding position suits better than the likes of an ER6 or Bandit or anything sporty. I don't want "sports" commuter, I just want commuter.

It's a decent bike, it's just a shame that it comes with that silly beak on it. Take it off and it would be just another upright mostly naked bike - and they probably wouldn't sell any.

Incidentally, I notice that the people riding the V-Strom in the promo pictures don't appear to have faces. Or souls.
