Bought a car for my daughter, selling old one.
Old car was only just taxed last month so I took the disc out, just posted it off this morning for a £140-odd refund.
Did SORN declaration online today.
Potential buyer calls just now, wants to use car on Monday.
Disc is outside in the postbox, but obviously not refunded nor does DVLA know it's on the way.
Can she tax the car on Monday? ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

In a post office, yes. Online system might have a hissy fit.
Declared SORN will show up/be active as of now.
If car is paid for and tax is purchased with the usual documents tomorrow (doesn't have to be valid anymore, just a certificate that is in date with the reg ) then the car is covered as proof that you have paid the duty will be given via receipt from Post Office along with disc and your receipt for sale of the car.
I'd drive it without caring, although... given the date, potential owner would be a mong to buy tax this late in the month. |

Can't be a problem, dealers are forever stripping license discs off of vehicles for a refund, and then billing customers for putting a fresh on one.
What, Capital Plc t/a DVLA will refuse your money? I don't see it. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Cheers for the replies.
In the end I phoned them up and they said that it's a very common occurrence and she could tax it at the post office. I didn't want to cause the lady any grief so thought it best to double-check. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Yes you can buy 2 tax discs for a car I bought a new pre reg car which was untaxed, but on handover the dealer opened the dealer opened the documents to find the original tax in the folder and he had the new one which he had just got from the Post Office. |
