Mine are 5 and 7 and they've been out a few times - town and back, round the villages etc.

I don't have kids, but I think I was 6 when I went out on the back of my dad's Bantam.

Mine were 10-14 and kept up a competition as to who had been faster lower.
But . their first ride wasnt on my bike... Andy Macc had his 600 a while before I got back into biking and he took them down into town... They did have a set of leathers though and boots gloves helmets

I didn't start riding a motorcycle until the youngest of my five children was 17. I have three girls and two boys and, aside from my wife, I've only taken the girls on the back (ages 17, 19, 24). Mostly this is because the only extra helmet we have is my wife's. It's pink. With flowers.

For some reason, the boys (ages 21, 20) refused to use the lid.

The first time I went on the back of one was when I was about 13, but only up and down a long private road. The next time I was a pillion I was 18, living in Las Vegas, and another 18 year old used to ride me to work every day. I only had (his old) helmet, jeans and a t-shirt. And no grab handles. The rider used to regularly hit 90mph (on city streets) and do wheelies. Put me off biking for many, many years.

The only other time I had been on powered two wheels before doing my CBT in 2011 was on my honeymoon (aged 25, 1988) on a 50cc moped -- the kind with peddles -- around Martha's Vineyard.

Does the child have to touch the foot pegs when you let them on your bike. I ask, as my step daughter is quite tiny for her age and i'm not sure if she can touch the pegs. Maybe i'll see if she can get on and off while stationary, before we try a run out.

Are there any handles you can get, so you can feel their presence, when they are on the back.

Regards.

yep law says she has to be able touch the pegs when seated but you might find there is a mod you can do to make a peg a bit higher for the pillion

My daughter was 5 when I first took her out on the bike. She had her own two piece leathers, boots and an Arai helmet. I made a set of 'love handles' out of an old belt, which gave her something comfortable to hang on to. I enjoyed taking her out on the bike and she came on quite a few sunday runs, which meant no hooning with the lads. Fortunately she's nearly 16 now and getting more interested in boys than bikes so I'm managing to get the odd blast on my own.

My first experience with bikes as a kid was when I was 2 or 3. The family wheels was a Triumph Thunderbird 6T with a sidecar, the old man rode the bike with my mother on the pillion and me and my older brother in the chair. The old man had other outfits over the years but the Thunderbird is the one I remember best. As this was the only form of transport they could afford at the time we used to go everywhere on it, the old shed even managed to take us to Butlins one year Laughing
