Heading for westminster this morning, a massive silver merc 4x4 pulls out on fonthill road with a suited type driving, as I go past him in the bus lane at around 40, he starts to play catchup.

Here he is, my commuting buddy. Razz

I start down towards camden, this guy's always trying to keep up, I'm not going mad fast but I notice I'm going quicker than most with the exception of suit boy.

Then along comes a proper dangerous nob in a little old fiesta, cracks past the merc and sticks to me, we all stop at some lights, I check this punk out, some dishevelled 30 something behind the wheel, the suit's sat behind him.

As I gun it off the lights to get infront of the tramp in the ford, we zip left, the fiesta belts past me at around 45 at which point the suit behind me turns on his blue lights, steams past me and pulls the guy over.

Absolutely no idea this guy was a rozzer Shocked

I start thinking about the slightly dodgy stuff (I counted at least 5 things) I was doing while this dude was behind me and consider my self quite lucky.
Maybe he was baiting me earlier until trampster in the fiesta came along.

Also very glad I wasn't on my cbr, definite nick. Embarassed

Might have been worth stopping and earwigging. I'd be interested to know what a single crewed CID type was doing in an unmarked but blue lit traffic-style car, and why he had time to (attempt to) pull someone over for a minor traffic offence.

Reminder: plain clothes = perfectly legal to say "Get a uniformed unit if you're really a copper and want me to stop" and continue riding/driving.

Is that really true Shocked

Couldnt they try do you for failure to stop on the grounds it was equiped with sirens and you failed to wait as they produced I.D. or similar.

Great if not, just seems almost too easy Laughing

More than likely just a word in his shell telling him to calm down before he ruins someone's day.

Maybe had a camera? didn't really look that hard, just cracked on, albeit a little slower than before. Smile

I had a similar experience on Thursday morning. Coming down the Paddington Slip off the A40 I briefly opened her up and gunned it around a transit so we didn't get tangled up with each other.

It was only then that I spotted a police bike parked up at the corner ahead. The cop came striding out of his hiding place behind the chevrons and flagged me down. Oops. Here we go.

Parked up and removed my helmet. He waved his little laser gun around and said he'd nabbed me at 57 in a 40 and did I have my license with me. Bum-fiddling arse-monkeys. This wasn't going to go well.

He strode off to grab some lube from his Beemer and just at that moment he saw some yoof in a car do something and took exception to it. He leaped into the road and forced the kid to come to an abrupt stop. The guy in the car seemed to be burdened with an especially big chip on his shoulder and started a vigorous arm waving argument with the cop. Bad mistake. Attitude test failed beyond recovery.

The cop got the guy to reverse his car out of the slip road into a little access way the. Turned to me and said the legendary words:

"I've finished with you."

I wasted no time in jumping on the bike and getting the fvck out of there before he changed his mind.

Of course, it's possible that he said "I haven't finished with you" and I misheard. There's probably a swat team outside right now.

I personally think the speed gun was wrong and I'm fairly convinced that I was only doing 30mph. I know this because the slip road is actually a 30 limit and I always obey all speed limits. At the time I decided that pointing this out to the nice policeman probably wouldn't help matters, especially if his faulty device was saying 57mph.

So thank you to the angry young man in the car. Your bad attitude is my gain. And thank you to the policeman for relishing a fight with a feisty kid rather than a boring old middle aged biker.

It's an offence to fail to stop for a constable in uniform (or a traffic womble, sadly).

There's nothing, not one word, about marked vehicles or lights or sirens. It's the copper (or womble) who does the stop, not the vehicle.

The law is written as it is for a reason: see Sergeant Eros, who was a proper mental case.

Of course, it would be an epic attitude fail. Very occasionally though playing strictly to the rules does work.

Why would he be CID? I see uniformed cops in unmarked cars all the time. Uniform = not CID.

Any way to easily spot an unmarked cop car?

So what about the legality of an umarked car with previously concealed blue lights attemtping to pull you over?

It's in the attitude. I was doing a steady 95 per the speedo (so probably slower) and an unmarked Seat Leon pulled me. First thing he said was 100mph is an instant ban and and he pegged me at 100.3mph. I didn't see any point in arguing, was polite and decent and I got off with 3 points and £60.

If I'd have ranted and told him he was wrong it would've been a ban.

PS It's a car story Embarassed

Don't have poor obs.

Anyone can attempt to instruct you to stop. See this "law professor" having to apologise to Strathclyde plodforce over not understanding that.

Whether it's an offence for you to fail to stop or not is a different matter. All the law refers to is uniform, not the flash-flash and the wah-wah.

Another glorius example of how unfair the justice system is towards car drivers.
Bikers aye get away with murder yet some poor driver gets the heat.

Sad

So that law wouldn't help much with Sgt. Eros, being [apparently] uniformed.

Just for clarification a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) is NOT a police officer/constable. Even though they might look like the police. What's that, how do they get away with not being prosecuted under Section 90 of the Police Act 1996? I don't know, I can't find an amendment that includes PCSOs!*

BTW IMHO they're called PCSO because tea boy/girl, although more accurate, might be seen as demeaning and not appeal to the police "I am the law" wannabee recruits.

There was one small hint[*]:

https://images.dailyexpress.co.uk/img/dynamic/80/285x214/114481_1.jpg

[*] Which two Plainclothes Plonks apparently failed to spot when they asked him if he needed assistance outside a gig, leading to his first arrest after they took the huff. They watched his show first, of course.
