Cheaper Inter-changable parts.

Currently looking for a chain for a GPZ600R, which got me thinking - is it possible to get other parts from different manufacturers which are cheaper?

For example, I remember seeing a case of a set of brake pads being double the price for a Jaguar X-Type than they were for a mk3 Ford Mondeo - even although the parts were the exact same and therefore; a direct replacement.

Surely; with manufacturers trying to cut production costs and save money in development - then there should be other bikes out there that would have the same spec of chain as the GPZ600R.

Anyone know of any off the top of their heads?

What about GPZ500 or GPZ900 for examples? Or maybe something completely unusual...

Basically just trying to save some pennies here guys, help me out. Thumbs Up

Chains are easy.

They are only specced by pitch and length.

Think a GPZ600 uses a 530 by 102 links.

So any chain that its that pitch and either that length or longer will fit.

Who buys OEM chains nowadays anyway? Pattern (aftermarket) chains are far better quality and a lot less money.

I assumed he was just talking about chains that are marketed "GPZ600 Chain" same with those idiot sellers on eBay that sell 4 liters of Castrol Power 1 for 20% more because it is listed as "Honda Fireblade Oil Castrol Power 1"

Or add in a cheap oil filter and call it a "Honda Fireblade Service Kit" and charge you £20 extra.

OEM chains and sprockets are very good, but only Fisty is rich enough to afford them.

Only because they were cheap on ebay, would you like the empty SGP bags to catch your tears in Razz

Oddly last week I found out that the oil filter for a tl1000r fits on a 98 fiat punto.

There likely are for basic bit other bikes that use the same part (one example is the seals used in the 6 pot calipers on Hayabusas and ZZR1400s), but back in the late 1980s there was far less sharing of any basic components.

Chain won't be a problem though, nor things like wheel bearings.

You might be surprised. Until the mid 1990s a lot of Lotus cars used parts from Toyota. Quite often they were far cheaper from Lotus than from Toyota Thinking .
