Hardly ever go, but when I do I don't regret it. Probably because of the fact I don't go much, so it's a bit of an occasion.

As Stinkwheel says, if it were to break into song I would not enjoy that part at all.

When I was in Seoul I saw a sort of amateur/professional production which was a comedy and had no singing. That was pretty good even though I couldn't understand most of it.

Yeah as far as theatre productions go, I'll say I only really would like it if there's no singing and it has a sort of jovial tone to it.

I think I've been to the theatre less than 10 times in my whole life.

Even though I used to work here:

Also - the last time I went to the theatre I offended a cast member by emulating her impressive monobrow with my finger to my wife. Turns out I am not invisible, she saw my mockery and gave me a scornful stare of hatred worthy of Hitler.

Perhaps she really thought it funny and was only demonstrating her prowess as a True Thespianist.

AmDram is 99% shite, smaller non london theatres is 20% shite.

Everything I've seen up London has been good, the worst thing I saw was the Woman in Black and that wasn't bad I just didn't enjoy it as much as I thought.

Still it's an expensive night out, I always felt like paying ~£250 for a meal a show and an argument with the missus was expensive. Laughing

I very rarely go as theatre does nothing for me but I am taking the kids to see Slava's Snow Show this Saturday.

A bloke in the office saw it last year and said it was really good so I may as well treat the kids.

Last time I treated my wife to the theatre was to see Hairy Bikers. Was very good too.

Last time she treated me was after that to see one of her relatives (other family members went along) playing Madame Giry in Phantom Of The Opera musical.

I would go more often but generally only find out about stuff after it's been and gone.

How about a night at the speedway instead? Or an evening at the dogs? Looking at the top ten theatre productions it's pretty dire right now... it's all "Les Mis" and similar drivel.

I've never been to an opera but there are some Opera songs that I love..... like "Canzonetta Sull' aria" as featured in the Shawshank Redemption for eg. Trouble is, you have to sit through the rest of the dross to get to it.

What is Les Miserables about?

The study of a down trodden society?

We, as the minority class of road users, would do well to learn something from Les Miserables and Ms Hugo's message.

Very Happy

Au contraire mon ami... I think it would be a very drab study on social injustice and class inequality if there was no singing and dancing. Smile

Only time I ever went to the theatre was cos I had to, as part of doing O Level lit - it was to see Romeo and Juliet. Man, that was enough to put me off for life. Which it did.

Shakespeare? More like Cuntsfucker.

Work sent the whole office to see 'The Producers' in the West End, which I found very dull. All jazz hands BS.

Went and saw the Nutcracker last Christmas by the English National Ballet. That was actually very good... And seats were only £25 each!

No. You only paid £25. They cost more like £200 each.

English national ballet was funded by the Arts council to the tune of £6,408,441 this year.

That's SIX MILLION, FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND pounds!

Despite this enormous amount of public funding, I can't find any statistics showing how many people actually attend English National Ballet to see how much each attendee is being subsidised by MY tax money.

I have a feeling this is deliberate because it would cause an enormous amount of rage if the truth were to be commonly available. Same goes for opera.

I love the theatre, I wish they would glam it up a bit though.

I rmemeber it as somewhere that you dress smart/casual, bow it s just like going to the cinems.

Im going in December, but i forget what it is to see..

Les Miserables is by far the best Ive ever seen.

I like smaller productions, intimate theatre houses, only a handful of actors. The Woman in Black is a good example of good old fashioned storytelling with a limited amount of props, effects, lighting etc.

245,842 last year so arts council subsidy equates to roughly £26 a ticket.

Which is superb Value for Money if you want to see a lady ballet dancer standing on a man ballet dancer's 'wotzit' to get up for those high lifts that they are always doing.

Love the theatre. Don't do it enough, sadly. Much prefer the smaller, more intimate performances than the larger ones in the west end. I can recall seeing one performance in the 'theatre' section of the white bear pub in Balham. A very small venue indeed but the space was incredibly well used and you felt more part of the show being so close to the performers. I recommend people try it to see what they think - website is here: https://www.whitebeartheatre.co.uk/

Best show I have seen was Vesturport's Metamorphosis. The music was written by Nick Cave so very emotive indeed. Take a listen:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doF0oEGjUrM

Love that music. Pity Nick Cave didn't realise it on any of his albums.
