Hi,

I have a GSF600 Bandit on a 99 plate. I want to change the oil filter and looking on-line, there are lots of cheaper options.

So, does the quality count? should i pay more or stick anything on there?

Thanks

I would always buy a branded filter such as UFI or HiFlo. It is not worth risking things for the sake of a couple of quid.

Lots of complaints about Fram filters on the web but it seems these have now been addressed but I'm not sure I would use one on my bike.

Half the price of a K&N. No complaints here and no extra sludge on the magnetic sump plug compared to the K&N.

K&N products are waste of money for 90% of motorcyclists. Thumbs Up

I do believe that K&N does some decent air/oil filter and some other bits, but for normal riding it only results in problems.

Think I've posted this before, but it's worth a read.

Well, K&N oil filter? Who here can appreciate the lower filter resistance, so the oil goes easily through the system?

K&N Air filter, well every one I know that had it, had bad engine running even after a dynojet kit and I don't need to mention the price of the actual filter. By the way I made my own filter from proper filter foam, costed 2 pounds, I could fabricate 2 complete filters and it worked great = better then the dirty OEM paper one I tossed away, when I couldn't buy a reasonably priced spare part.

All that ''let's add some power'' industry is a waste of money. I get it, rumours sell and many people will tell you, that OEM filter is not good enough for your bike. Get proper filter foam material and make your own filter, if you DYNO run your bike, then you're gonna get the same performance as you'd get with an K&N filter for much less money. Or get the red power band. Thumbs Up

I think you would be hard pressed to find a bad filter. They're not complex and don't use expensive materials - in fact I expect the most expensive part of a spin-on oil filter is the metal casing.

If you're concerned, go with what gives you peace of mind. The difference between cheap and expensive is going to be about a fiver. That's cheap. Far more expensive things will go wrong for no good reason.

By the way, when I said, make your own filter I meant the air filter of course. Now, when I read it the second time it does sound like I'm telling you to make your own oil filter, which would be a stupid thing to do. Laughing

Oil filter, an Hiflo. Air filter, your own or OEM Thumbs Up
