Hi All,

I recently agreed to buy deadwolf's Cafe Racer styled CB500 off of him, some of you may remember that he rode it from York down to London and managed to go head on in to a car not far from where I work. He bought it down to the museum and I made him a footpeg and had a go at getting it to idle but he decided he would rather not ride it back in the condition it was in so he left it with me with the aim of popping it on ebay.

Deadwolf had a price in mind which I was happy to pay at first however upon further more thorough inspection I found several concerning bits and pieces in how the bike was modified, I made an offer more in line with what I felt it was worth taking in to account the work I feel is required, I half expected him to decline and stick with ebay, however deadwolf accepted my offer so now I have a nice project on my hands!

I'm still not 100% sure what the plan is when it is finished however a guy I work with has lots of experience dealing with bodywork and spraying (and has all his own equipment and paint) and can weld too and has offered to help me sort it out so we will probably try and fix it up as well as we can and it will either become my second bike or will be sold on, I've not decided on that bit yet!

So anyway, enough babble, pictures ahoy!

This is how the bike has been modified:

You can see the footpeg I made for him as a get-me-home.

So far the closest thing to a plan is to completely re-do the back end. The way it was chopped by whoever modified it is in my mind dangerous and un-roadworthy so it will need some welding and some sort of subframe made up before anything, then there is some minor crash damage and some unsightly screw heads to deal with so some fiberglassing is in order:

We're hoping to incorporate the tail/brake light into the single seat unit and generally tidy this whole back end up as it looks a bit unfinished to me:

The wheels were half polished and had wheel stripes added however as you can see the stripe is coming off at the back and the polishing has tarnished. The wheels will probably be painted black or red.

The seat also needs looking at!:

So that is the majority of the work, there are also some minor scratches that will need seeing to and some other crash related bits and pieces (headrace bearings, bent bars etc...) however it should be nice and shiny by the end of the month if all goes right!

I'm after any suggestions for colours etc...

I would also appreciate it if anybody who is good at photoshop could have a go at colouring the tail unit, mudguard and side panels the same red as the tank?
