I press the start button and it tries to turn over, but wont fire.

obviously, the longer i try starting the bike, the quicker the battery dies!

Any ideas?

Test the battery & charging system with a multimeter, stick the battery on a trickle charger overnight. Has the rec / reg been replaced or is it the suspect Honda original? Have the carbs got fuel in them, have the carbs been off / fiddled with? Have you had the tank off recently and not put everything back on spot on? What nick are the plugs in?

Will it bump start?

My first thought is battery

Try jumping it from a car battery

Bike has had new battery, reg/rec, stator coils within the last 2 months.

The bike was running fine up until this week.

It bump starts just fine, it's how i got it going last night to get home from work!

I'll charge her up again tonight and see if she starts in the morning.

I was thinking something to do with the starter motor as it does turn over and over, but just wont go that last bit and fire!

Is it turning over at the normal speed?

Any other symptoms?

Could it be a knackered stator?

Stator has just been replaced.

The starter is turning over just fine, sounds OK, but if it doesn't fire, i eventually run the battery down from trying to start it.

It started this morning, but you can guarantee that at home time tonight it will have to be bump started. In the rain!
