Hello folks.

I have been on a years sabbatical from bikes. Decided to sell my last ZX9R November 2012 as i wasn't that interested in doing another two wheeled winter. Meant to get another bike come spring time but due to some expensive holiday arrangements and other vehicular purchases i never had the cash

Couldnt take it any longer so two days ago i picked up a nice 2002 K1 GSXR1000. This one is no show pony and has definitely seen plenty action over its 22k but I do like to tinker with my bikes and i think i got a good deal on it so i'm not complaining.

Had it out for it first proper ride (and only my second in a year!). What a beasting machine! Gonna take a while to get used to that power i reckon.

Only real negative is the brakes - recently overhauled apparently, fresh fluid, new pads, braided lines. They do stop it but they aren't exactly confidence inspiring. Will need to get them stripped down and see whats in there but think a set of pads will be first port of call. Have always like bendix or ferodo in the past. Anyone know if these work well on the gixers?

After I sort that will just be a case of steadily working my way around it fixing little things, replacing worn out bits, upgrading what i can afford to and just generally tidying it up in between commutes and fun rides as i go - happy times Smile

Heres a quick pic of it patiently waiting to go out for a blast this morning...

Nice one, welcome back. Bendix work good in gixxers, OEM pads are usually good but expensive. SBS pads are what I've been using lately.

Early K GSXR-1000 Brakes are shit, full stop. Wouldn't waste your money on new pads if you would entertain the idea of buying better calipers for it - check gixerjunkies for common upgrades.

22k on the clocks, K1 model, £2k would be a good price, anything lower, an excellent price.

nice bike!

no disrespect but your chains are made out of chalk and cheese before you upgrade the bike upgrade the chains to Pragmasis or Almax chains.

Also the paving slab you have the ground anchor bolted into looks like it could be just picked up with a tooth pick!

by the way did i say nice bike and congrats on the purchase you might wanna get a tre if your bike does not have one already
