Wow! I knew that a fair amount of the film would be green screen stuff but I had no idea that they used it so much. That was really good Thumbs Up

I love this stuff, it's mad how much is actually VFX and what isn't. I suppose once you've seen some of the camera pans/zooms in those reels, it makes sense that they couldn't do it in real life so easily.

Did you know that Keanu Reeves gave away some $75million of his profit shares in the Matrix films, to all the VFX people, making them all millionaires Shocked

It's not just in the movies, they use this stuff all the time on tv shows like law and order...

its all (mostly) real, just it never happens all in the same shot!
they still have to get the footage in order to layer it all together.
music videos use layers. this being the most obvious example if a little crude:

I like CGI when it's done like that, in that the amount of practical staging lends an acceptable realism because the laws of physics are not getting broken.

District 9 was the perfect blend of Live action and CGI.

It was the Star Wars prequels that killed big CGI for me though. By having hardly any physical sets or stunts they threw the physics book out of the window and ended up with "Kung Fu Panda with lightsabres".

That was really interesting, actually quite liked the film but cant put a finger on why. Amazing how far cgi's come. Still remember watching the plastic dinosaurs on sinbad as a kid Laughing
