Went for a quick blast across the Pennines this after to get out on my own for a couple hours.

Stopped at a newsagents for a Mars bar and a bottle of water, came back out to the bike and it wouldn't start.

I feared this would gapped as I have been having some issues with the bike firing up.

This, however, was different. I parked at the top of a hill incase of such eventuality, so I could roll down and bump start the bike. Which I tried and absolutely nothing!

So I call the RAC, they tell me a 2 hour wait! So I ring the mrs and ask her to come out to me with some jump leads and see if that solves it.

I hook everything up and absolutely nothing.

The mrs, knowing nothing about bikes, walks over and asked about the kill switch.

Yep, some cunt had walked past the bike and flicked the switch as I was in the shop!

TL:DR kill switch was on, I wasted time callng RAC and mrs only to be schooled of my noobiness by the mrs :/

*Mocks* Well that was silly! Getting schooled by an RAC man would be bad enough, but by the missus! On the kill switch! Oh dear!

I once had a mate who once pushed a bike at least 5 mile home because my mates kill switch was down! Hah! My mates such a muppet! I tell ya I was knackered when I got home!...

Cheers

Wait....so it wouldn't turn over and you thought attaching some jump cables would help it? Dear oh dear.

Most people include it in their "things to check when bike won't start" Razz

Some bikes will turn over with the kill switch engaged and some won't, can make it extra confusing!

I've done it too. When I first got my bike I wasn't going to use it for a while so it was left in the garage. A week later I get it out and it's not working. Rang a family member who has bikes and they came over to help after I was bump starting it down a hill for an hour. Turns out the kill switch and the fact I'd turned the fuel tap to off was the culprit. Embarassed

One time, after coming back from a trip abroad where I had rented a car (I don't own a car), I got back on my scooter, took it to the petrol station, then couldn't get it started after filling up.

I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start up.

It was because I was twisting the key expecting it to turn over. Embarassed My jetlagged brain figured it out eventually, but only after I had walked the bike away from the pump.

Yep, done the same thing. I'd also parked like a muppet, so it sort of went like - gear up, get on, realise I haven't got enough room to move the bike, wiggle it around til I can get out without encountering a railing/wall, try to start it, shite. Flap around like a bigger muppet, finally twig the killswitch, and eventually get going.

Coupled with the L plates, I look like a right fool.

Nope. However, I sold my HN to a chap who phoned me up irately the next morning to have a go because it wouldn't start.

"By any chance, have you knocked the kill swi- [VROOM] Ah, there we go."

I have left fuel taps turned off a few times, and now that I think about it, I sold the GPz305 with the tap off. I wonder how far the fellow got. Thinking

I use the following mnemonic to get me through the pre-ride checks. It is based on your tried and tested acronym.

I - Intergalactic
S - shenanigan
K - Kingdoms
C - Connect
N - Nairobi
I - Innocents
B - Before
F - Failing
H - Homeopathy

I found it works really well and helps me to ready both the bike and myself! It's become something of a mantra - intergalactic shenanigan kingdoms connect Nairobi innocents before failing homeopathy. Try it everyone - it could help keep you safe. Thumbs Up

Definitely wasn't me that flick the switch. Ido remember flcking it what I thought was on then off, but obviously. Was doing t in reverse!

The reason I was so quick to figure it was fecked was because ve has probs starting it recently, that coupled with the charging system woes earlier in the year and I threw the towel in straight away and called the RAC!

Think I would have been more embarrassed if the RAC had flicked the switch than my mrs to be honest Smile

We live and learn though I suppose!
