Today it has come to light after a courier friend was contacted by a bike buyer that someone is trying on a scam stating they are selling a bike but it can't be viewed because a courier is storing it, awaiting delivery Shocked

Someone (possibly many) will fall for this scam so anyone, I'd suggest not parting with any cash until you see the bike, check it out and get your own courier to collect it if you can't do so yourself.

Emails exchanged, read bottom to top.

Looks like it. I've looked at ebay and gumtree for potentials and messaged one but the reply seems all above, maybe I'll contact the emailer to ask where it was seen.

Perhaps the victim would be encouraged to pay a deposit to secure the bike subject to seeing it, or the scammer would suddenly start demanding fees to release it from storage.

All sorts of possibilities to this one, it's pretty clever. This is one reason I won't part with money until I've seen what I'm buying.

I'd have seen that as a variant of "working on the rigs" to be honest. It screams scam to me.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I agree but it seems far too many people these days are too dim to spot it for themselves.
