Hids & 125's?

Silly question but I don't suppose anyone knows if I could shoe horn these into an NSR as an upgrade for the lights?

The current halogen's are pretty poor in but my main concerns about upgrading to Hid's are if the bike can produce enough extra power if they use more power than the stock 35w halogens and also if they will run any hotter which may lead to melting issues as with higher rated halogen bulbs?

Would beefing up the wiring loom also be a consideration?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

If you're swapping a 35w light bulb for a 35w HID youre pulling the same current off the battery and loom.

I would advise using projectors though as it gives a much better beam pattern

Unfortunately, light's aren't usually great on 125's, small batteries and alternators won't give out enough juice to power decent bulbs. If the manufacturers used larger generators, they'd sap too much power from the engine and be heavier. Are the lenses plastic? They can sometimes fade on older bikes losing light. Make sure the reflectors are nice and shiny - if you can get into them that is.

I answer to your question, I wouldn't have thought many 125s have enough power to use a HID system. Are they listed as being sold for your bike?

Hi,
i have fitted hid's to both mitos & rs125, so i reckon you could fit the ballast etc on nsr.
found them better than standard bulbs,

I always thought HID lights used more power for some reason. Don't the ballasts have to "charge" up or sommat?

Why don't manufacturers use bigger generators then... the wallies?

35w is 35w.
They can use more on startup apparently - but we're still talking significantly less than a starter would.

There's also space and cost considerations for bigger power generators.

From my understanding, they are more efficient than halogen bulbs and thus produce more light for the same given power however the ballast boxes are used to increase the voltage quiet a lot. I was also under the impression that after switching on but before they ignite the ballasts draw quiet a lot of current to get the lights going which could cause issues with the wiring if its not up to it.
Have not been able to find a huge amount of info about getting HID's into an NSR but I do know that they don't take a H4 bulb standard (have heard suggestions of using an adapter if such a thing exists BA20d - H4).

Will have a gander on ebay.

On startup current, depending on the bike, you could just turn them on once the engine is turning over?

I generally have my lights turned off on the CB until setting off. Mostly due to an incident with running the battery down (left the ignition on in the garden).
