Are they worth it?

I need a pair of gloves that are actually waterproof. Warmth is not my immediate concern, but feel and protection are (below water resistance).

The 365's seem to fit my criteria on paper, but I wondered if anyone could offer some suitable, if not better, alternatives.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use spada enforcers - 30-50 quid. Waterproof, and with thermal inners used for hours in -5 temps at speed without muffs and been fairly comfy Thumbs Up

Have a (kind of novelty Rolling Eyes ) visor wiper on the left thumb too Laughing

Haven't tried the 365s but have a pair of textile type Gortex alpinestars (can't remember the model), they're comfortable but can already feel they're not gonna be great in the bad winter. Waterproofing is already but not perfect. A good rain will see the inside get a bit damp, not drenched though. Overall I'd say Alpinestars, from what I've heard from friends and my gloves, are decent but there's probably better for the money.

Spada enforcers on the other hand... Crap! Only decent thing was the novelty visor blade. Hands were freezing in cold weather, never mind winter. And they soaked water like a sponge after a month of wearing them. Would only recommend as a spare pair to get you by.

Sure they werent a knackered pair Shocked

I dont ride majorly often in heavy rain but the times i have its been for a good few hours and havent had a drop get in. They are admittedly not the warmest out the box but with some £5 thinsulate gloves inside theyve done the job for me the past 2 years.

Brand new, ok for a month or so then leaked. If i said yes they were a bad pair, I'd then have to say I got a bad pair of spada boots and trousers too as they were all the same. Never again will I be returning to Spada.

I have a pair and they make my hands sweat and smell awfull. Spend more on a goretex pair, budget gloves are horrible.

Visordown did a fairly scientific test of a bunch of sub-£100 winter gloves.

It was surprising just how many of them weren't waterproof.

The Richa Cold Protect GTX won

The Spada Enforcer came last scoring 1/10 in the cold test and 0/10 (!) in the water test.

If you can't be arsed reading it all...

I've had the Spada Enforcer gloves previously and only wore them once before getting rid of them - they were far too thick for my liking.

Thanks for the links, stevelup. I'll check them out later today.

I would wear my summer gloves all year round if they were waterproof.

i've had a pair of 365s for about 2 years, they come out during the colder months Smile

excellent gloves. no they won't help keep your hands toasty in the bitter months (they'll perform a lot better than sports gloves though) but all i do is use silk inner gloves under than and that creates a nice layer of air to keep some feeling in my fingers Very Happy

they survived a scottish downpour when i was touring (literally the whole day it pissed it down) and only got a little damp around the cuff as it soaked up water from my soaking wet textiles but other than that they performed excellently.

what i like about them is they feel and behave like sports gloves so you can still work zips, clutch etc.. without fumbling around like you would with winter gloves

I used to like these, but have come to the conclusion that they are in fact a pile of shite.

Mine have never been waterproof, although it is hard to tell because the plasticy fabric liner makes my hands sweat. Because of the sweat, my hands aren't much warmer by the time I arrive to work than they are if I wear unlined summer gloves, with the added benefit that my hands smell like a hooker's undercarriage.

For winter, muffs and whatever gloves you want seems more appropriate.

Another Spada enforcer wearer here.

I've had them for just over 2 years, bought them in Sept 2011, so this is there 3rd winter. The padding inside them has squished down quite a bit, I could probably put a pair of silk liners on without them feeling too bulky now.

Waterproofing, for my pair, is still acceptable. Half an hour of heavy motorway rain this morning, and got to work and my hands were perfectly dry. I have had a small amount of water leakage in the past, but only on the tip of the right thumb. Given the amount of rain when it happened, I thought they did a reasonable job.

For £50 they have been pretty good. OK, they aren't GoreTex, but mine don't smell, still keep the water out, are reasonably warm and if I'm honest, out of all my kit the gloves are treated the worst - slung on a hot radiator when wet, barely cleaned, etc.

You check out my review of the Alpinestars 365

Used over 2 winters and performed fine! I like them because they fit like my GP Pros. I had issues with water collecting in the cuff, but if you're wearing them under the sleeves of your goretex jacket, then you''ll be fully waterproof!

It does get cold in them, but the feel through your fingers is better than the HG panthans I have. Worried about windblast? Get muffs!

365's are not winter gloves, they are Xtrafit gortex lined for breathability, windproofing and waterproofing but have no thermal lining, they are more like autumn/spring gloves, they replaced tech-roads which were an awful fit, but either are great gloves.

ATM I use Dainese contact, again xtrafit gortex, windproof, waterproof, breathable, but again not thermal so will be used for autumn / spring, they're on sale for £100 reduced from £150 as they're discontinued

for winter use it's alpinestar jet road goretex, they're upto about the 5th design now, mine are mk3/4 leather palms, fabric cuffs, goretex and thermal lined, some of them had more leather and some were more fabric, but they were all goretex and thermal lined, I'm on my third pair
