Yeah definitely go for a few lessons. Better off spending £50 or whatever for a couple of hours lesson rather than failing Smile

Worth it financially? I doubt it. You'll be paying £100 a day to a training school, and that'll be for 2 (or more...) trainees per trainer.

Mod 1 costs £15.50 and all you're doing is following clear instructions. Practice on your own and then just get it done.

Mod 2 is £75. That's a closer call, especially if your roadcraft is a bit suspect, but you're almost guaranteed to pay more than that for any training, and you might fail anyway. You can learn during a test but you can't pass during a lesson.

If you've boned up on your Highway Code and are confident, especially at roundabouts and junctions, I'd say just go for it. If you fail then you'll know what you need to work on, and you can pay some geezer to yell in your ear for a few hours.

Ok cheers guys, one of my friends is boasting about he's paying £500 for unlimited lessons and retakes of his test, i said if it takes you that many times then surely you shouldn't be on the road lol, £500 is too much for me, id pay that when i need to hire a bike for my bigger bike test

Advantages of passing the 125 test:

Arrow pillion passengers
Arrow motorways
Arrow no L plates
Arrow gets the 2 year / 6 point probation period started

Is it worth it?

Meh.

for me the biggest thing there is the no L plates. the change in other driver's attitude towards you is almost unbelievable. people move over so you can overtake (not that you can sometimes Laughing ), don't try stupid overtakes, give you more room... its brilliant.

I agree with Lukamon, lose the L plates and the homicidal bullying from cagers stops.

I might do my A1s as practice for my A2s - the only change will be the bigger bike.

I was thinking of doing just DAC for the A2s and forgetting the A1s but not sure right now. Leaning towards A1s then A2s just for experience and practice.

I dunno what to do but for £90 extra (although I could save £30 as my school would take off money for having experience) - I'd guess it helps quite a bit.

Still don't see the point, unless your CBT was about to expire & you didn't have the money for a big(ger) bike license. I know Tef' & Efes (if he's still around) disagree, but I'd rather put the money towards my DAS personally.

Im 17 i dont wanna wait till im 24 to do DAS lol

So £60 extra (assuming you pass both modules first time). Might be worth it if it meant you were eligible for a shorter course, but far as I'm aware they assess you anyway. Up to you (obviously), but all this multiple testing doesn't make sense to me.

You'd only have to wait 'til 19 to do your A2 then 21 (under the 2yr rule), but I was referring more to people like G30 who have the choice to go for a bigger bike license.

It was my understanding that under the news laws i had to take me A1 test, then my A2 then unrestricted full A test

Nope.

You get early access to A two years after passing A2. But you get direct access to A2 when you turn 19, whether you've done A1 or not.

However, I would suggest that you give some consideration to passing A1 anyway, for the reasons noted above. When you do pass A2 and get yourself a faster bike, you'll appreciate being out of your new driver probationary period and having 12 points to play with.

But paying for A1? No, I don't think so, just have a go. Tell your mate this just after he's paid his £500... Wink

So is it not staggered progression, i assumed i had to do each stage of the license to do the full A test, is this not true?

See here.

It's bad, but it's not that bad. I imagine the route most people will go is: CBT some time after their 17th birthday; ride a 125 on L plates; get the theory out of the way at 18; do A2 immediately on turning 19; then do A 2 years later.

Do consider doing A1 on your own bike anyway. It gets the theory out of the way, the clock ticking on your new driver probation, and it may get you cheaper insurance depending on the insurer.

Well im 18 next month, been riding 7 months ish, booked my theory yesterday then my mod 1 and 2 i really wanna pass this test first out of my friends, (dont care about the one paying 500) as in my books hes retarded now in my opinion you've enlighted me, my mum was also just showing me a flow chart about it and im much more happy that im not stuck on a 125 for 2 years, thinking of getting a yamaha dt 125 for the winter after i pass, then when i pass my next test going up to a honda cbr 250 rr (old sexy one) w/ 20,000 limiter

My school is in the process of giving me a quote for each route now. I think the A1-A2 route is going to be quite a bit cheaper than the A2 + training route. They were like the A1 won't cost very much at all then you will just need to resit your practicals on a bigger bike. The A2 + training was like £600-750 depending upon time needed.

That could be like a £400 difference and the A1-A2 route would be like training anyway. Would just have to get used to the bigger bike (which you can pay £60 to have extra time, and for me, would just be a couple hours before I do the tests). That's how I see it, might be thinking wrong and the quotes will tell the story.
