I'v noticed I'm using my mirrors less and less due to the fact its easier to do a wee shoulder check, fair enough you can move the mirror to suit your need. My question is : Can you remove your mirrors or do you need to have them on ?.

My instructors said the best thing you can do with mirrors is remove them.

I keep them because I like having them and I can actually see backwards

My last two bikes have had bar end mirrors fitted instead, far more suited to an inner city commute.

Mirrors are good. It's difficult to get a concept of speed whilst looking behind you, unless you look for too long.

That said, I haven't had (usable) mirrors for 2 years now.

If someone invented rear view mirrors only today, I would buy them.

I took them off the Bandit and the R1 - IMO makes the bike look better but also made me feel uncomfy. Made me do shoulder checks more, but you cant see whats coming up behind IE: Copper followed me doing 85 up the A27 - No need for shoulder checks as I didnt plan on changing lane.. Untill he got side by side and waved the old slow down finger Laughing Ive had them on ever since.

I wouldn't be without my mirrors on the Virago I can see everything behind me. They are the original fitting and work very well.

My mirrors are useless for seeing backwards.

They are, however, perfect for seeing into the 'lifesaver" area. I rarely do the look over the shoulder these days as it's superfluous.
